Complaint Review: McDaniel And Sons Builders

Hired McDaniel And Sons Builders to rehab a property I purchased.  Initially when I spoke to him he seemed like an honest guy.  He provided a referral who also said he did a great job.  Not only that, he offered his own contract that stated that if he did not complete by the due date he would pay me $200 a day.  Well it was too good to be true.  Everytime he would say something would be done, my project manager would check on him and it wasn't done.  There were days where no one was working in the property and every time I asked him about it he would have some sort of excuse or promised not to worry that the job would be done on time.  I should have known better since towards the last week of the due date, he kept insisting the job was done when it wasn't.  I couldn't stand the lies anymore so I ended paying him (which I shouldn't have) and hired another contractor.  In total I had to pay an extra 15K from all the things that were not done to the property so that I could sell the home.  Not only that, apparently he was being shady and never paid his employees.  After I let him go one of his employees broke in to the property and was living there.  This same guy then tried contacting my realtor asking for payment of service due to not being paid for the work.

Beware and make sure you do your due diligence when researching legit contractors... especially if you are an out of town investor.
