Don't take your RV to McGeorges Service!!

A tree fell on my Winnebago on June 19, 2014 (which I bought from McGeorges 8 years ago).  The service manager was too busy right after it happened and told me to bring it in for an insurance estimate in 7 days.  He needed to keep it at least 2 weeks to prepare the estimate.

June 30, 2014 – Brought rig into McGeorges.  Terry insulted my RV experience by pointing to seams on the outside body claiming they need to be sealed.  He pointed to one seal which later turned out to be dirt on top of a smooth seal.  He climbed on the roof and said the rubber roof would need to be replaced.  The small ½” puncture might end up costing the insurance company $8,000 to $15,000.  I protested saying replacing the roof opens up other possible leaking points.  He said to do the job right; he would need to replace the roof.  I left the rig there for an insurance quote.

July 3, 2014 – No work on the insurance quote done to date.  I visited the service department asking if I could take it for the July 4th weekend.  Agreed.  But – they lost my keys.  I told them I had another set.  Took the rig on a small vacation with my 4 grandkids.

July 7, 2014 – Returned the rig for estimate.

July 15, 2014 – Minor work done on the quote.  Supposedly, a quote was sent to my insurance adjuster.  I asked for a copy from Terry.  Never received one.  Insurance adjuster said to go on with the repairs on my approval.  I STILL DON’T HAVE A QUOTE!  I visited the Service Department and Terry and I get into a heated argument.  I told him I didn’t trust him.  I told him he was wrong by insulting me when we first met.  I told him I called Winnebago and asked how they would fix a rubber roof.  They said “THIS RIG HAS A FIBERGLASS ROOF and they didn’t start putting rubber roofs on these Class C rigs until after 2006.”  I also told him they have a prescribed procedure for fixing these roofs and asked him if he would follow those procedures.  He said no.  He said his shop will fix the roof.  I told him he was an authorized service repair facility for Winnebago and asked why he didn’t follow their procedures.  He said they have their own procedures.

He said since I didn’t trust him that he would decline the work and I should go to another RV service facility.  I demanded to talk to his manager.  He introduced me to Art Bedard.  The three of us sat in his office and attempted to resolve differences.  I wanted to know when my damaged rig could be fixed.  I told Art I did not want to work through Terry any longer and if I could interface with him.  He agreed.  He said his body shop was back logged and he needed some time to move to the new facility.  We agreed I would return in 4 weeks and told him I needed my rig repaired by September.  I had another vacation scheduled for the Labor Day weekend and afterwards, I would be camping out at the Richmond Racetrack.  He agreed.

August 14, 2014 – Called Art and left a message for him to call me and tell me if it was OK to bring the rig back tomorrow (August 15th).

August 20, 2014 – Art calls back and wants me to bring the rig in.  I tell him I’m out of town but will return immediately to get him the rig.

August 21, 2014 – Returned from out of town and left the rig with him.  I questioned if he can get the repairs done by the Labor Day weekend as he promised me.  He said he might need it beyond but he would try.

August 28, 2014 – Called Art.  Repairs are not done yet.  I told him I would have to cancel my vacation with my grandkids.  I told him I absolutely had to have the repaired rig by Tuesday, September 2nd as I have reserved parking at the Richmond Racetrack.  He will try.

September 2, 2014 – Will call Art when he arrives.

September 2, 2014 - Morning - Before I could call Art, he called me, very upset.  He chewed me out for sending this e-mail to the President of the company.  "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU SENT AN E-MAIL TO MY BOSS", he said.  He further went on to say he never promised me anything, and that he can't.  I told him NOTHING in my e-mail to you was false and the way I was treated was inexcusable.  He said I could pick up my rig in the late afternoon.

September 2, 2014 - Afternoon - Drove over to McGeorges and picked up my rig.  The roof was not cleaned as I paid for.  The dust from your shop had settled on the rig and there were still pieces of old sealant scattered about.  The new sealant was still soft and pliable.  I was led to believe the work would have blended the new paint in with the old.  It sticks out like a sore thumb.

This has been the worst experience I've ever had with any dealer, including new car dealers, in 45 years of buying RVs, cars, and trucks.  And, I bought the rig from you, new back in 2006!  I will pass on my comments to Winnebago and ask why are you an authorized dealer?  I'll also join the hundreds of customers on the internet who warned me about the shifty way you do business.
