McGrath Arlington Kia Advantage Kia Total Rip Off- Avoid this Dealership Palatine Illinois
I went to McGrath Kia to get my oil changed and my tires rotated as usual. When I was done, I went to the sales floor and said I was interested in trading in my current vehicle. After learning more about pricing, i realized that right now wasn't the right time for me to buy a car. I was trying to find out more about what my purchasing options were so sometime in the next couple months I could perhaps get a new car. I had to meet with a finance manager who didn't know what he was doing. He started handing me paperwork. He told me it was necessary to sign the papers to check my eligibility for financing. I very hesitantly started signing paperwork and then I was told I got a really good deal and when we got to contract and started reading numbers he said just sign then took it away. I never had a chance to read what I was signing nor was my head in the right place to buy anything as I am still dealing with the grief of my Brother's recent passing. The sales staff told me I could take the car home for the night.
When I got home, I reviewed the papers they gave me at the dealership, and realized they sold me a car! A car that I simply cannot afford at this time, and a car that initially was supposed to be $27k with a $14k trade-in, became a $30k car with only a $11k offer to buy my existing vehicle. With interest, this car will cost me $51k!
The dealership refused to cancel this deal and I am seeking legal action...
Update. I was asked to come in and the manager said they would do nothing. I asked if we could at least trade for a much cheaper car and instead was offered 3 year maintenance package. I asked for something a little more significant like the original deal and was told no. Within 3 days you can return a vehicle under illinois law but after being threatened I was to scared to take it back until I was showed the truth, so they won. I am now in a talk with Carvana to buy the car from me. I have to eat the difference in cost of over $10k based on de-valuation. Also using it as a trade for an older vehicle that is affordable.

I am going to be very blunt in this...contrary to your report the only one who didn't know what they were doing was you. There is no RipOff here, only a big case of buyer's remorse.
You do NOT go from looking at cars in a Showroom, to filling out "paperwork" with the finance manager, to going over the numbers on a contract, to taking the car home, and then getting home realizing after you read the paperwork that you bought a car.
While I am sorry about your brother, trying to use him as an excuse does not really work. You seem to have been very aware of what you were doing, enough to now know that you didn't get the deal you thought. Contrary to your belief there is no "Cooling off" period for Auto Sales...Once you sign the contract the car is yours.

Good luck in your legal action. However, unless you come to some agreement with the dealer, you will be just spending additional time and money only to be told that the car is yours. Instead I would seriously reconsider taking a 10K hit on this, and talk to another trusted friend or relative who has a better grasp on financial matters and purchases than you appear to have. At the very least so you don't make another huge mistake.

First off, why are you even going to a dealer to get non-warranty work done unless you are in love with price gouging and poor customer service! Find and patronize a good independent shop to do that stuff. Secondly, you should be given an Academy Award for playing the role of doormat.
Why on earth would you even think you need to sign any papers just to look at cars? You say THEY didn't give you time to read the paperwork and that you just kept signing? What is wrong with you? They don't need to "give you" time to read anything! COMMON SENSE should tell you to TAKE the time to READ what you are agreeing to BEFORE you agree to it! I mean, how fundamental is that?
