My daughter wanted me to get a cell phone as she thought it would be safer for me to travel if I had one so I saw this add on the internet for Worldcom, a free phone, many any time hours, and free long distance so I signed up.

What I wasn't aware of was all the roaming charges AND I was even charged $7.99 when I used the phone to call an 800 number! I was shocked when my first and second months bills totaled $200.00. In the interm I had moved to another town and when I attempted to change my cell phone number was told that WorldCom did not service that particular area so I was welcome to return the phone to them with no penalty fee, however, they never gave me a place to return it too.

Being in fear of the FCC if I didn't pay the amount due, I went ahead and paid it. I again had to move to a rather large town in Calif. When I called Worldcom to get my new number they said I owed another $170.00! The rep. gave me two options. One-to return the phone and he would give me credit for all the roaming charges since they could not service my phone in the area where I had been, or two, to keep the phone, get a new number and still get credit for all the roaming charges.

I opted to keep the phone so I got a $70.00 credit and a new phone number which they said wouldn't work for 72hrs, until they notified AT&T of the change. This happened 10 days ago. My phone still does not work and they have given my old number to someone else already. My social security number IS NOT the number they have associated with the new number I was given. Their system hangs up on me saying that their call volume is too high right now and to call back at another time, over & over. Now I have a phone that does not work and have no address to return it to.
