Well last night, the first of Dec 2005 was the last straw for me with Mediacom. At exactly midnight my high speed internet went offline. I called Mediacom to find out the reason for the service outage. I was told by the Phone rep that a fibre optic cable was scheduled for repair and internet service should be back up by 6 AM.

My first statement to the rep was this; Why didnt Mediacom notify me about this PLANNED service repair before hand?(They could have sent an E-Mail) I would have made a point out of not scheduling anything for my comp. Ever since I have had Mediacom I have been plagued with internet service interuptions. Followed up with bad service support or out and out lies as to why my internet was not functioning.

About 3 months ago I had a run in with their crap services again regarding my television services, this run in proved to me they are a company filled with people who would rather lie then offer genuine customer service. Heres the story of bumbling idiots and how NOT to run a cable company. Last Dec I bought a HD television for my sons. I called Mediacom to order a HD box and have it installed. The service person came out about 10 days later and installed the new box. The new HD television was popping and crackling after the install. I told the service tech and he told me it was my television and not the HD box. I later took back the television and exchanged it for a new one. The popping and cracking did not go away with my second new television. I called again for service and was told by phone it was my television and NOT the box.

So I thought well I guess ill have to live with this problem. Well I later found out that someone I know works for a company that installs lines and boxes for the cable company as sub contractors.I asked him if he could look at my cable and tell me what he thought. He looked over my system and told me it was the box. So he sets me up with a new box and this fixes the problem, no more poppin and no more cracking. Well this lasts for about a day. Now the problem is I cant get any movie channels. So I call cable again to see if they can come and fix my cable. I explain that so and so told me it was the box and that he replaced it.

This was on a Thursday so they tell me no one can come out till the following Monday between 9 and 12 so I agree that Monday would have to do. Monday rolls around and no one shows up. So I call them up at about 2PM and ask where is the repair tech. The phone rep tells me they are running behind and they could get someone to me by 4 PM if I still wanted service.I ask the phone rep if he knew about courtesy calling if they cant make it on time. I didnt get an answer to that.

Well finaly the guy shows up. This guy (according to him) is a 20 year cable guy veteran. This guy pokes around and finally tells me its the cable wire on the pole and the new box is fine. So I ask him what was he going to do about it. He tells me a line crew will have to come and find the bad section of wire. This sounds to me REALLY suspect as more bs. So after he leaves I run over to my neighbors house across the road and their cable is fine. I call cable again to get a tech out and they tell me it would be about a week before anyone could come out. By this time im really trying hard not to call them sleezebags to their faces.

Another week rolls by and finally another service tech shows up this time he replaces the box with a brand new box and everything is working fine. I ask him about the line being bad and he tells me it was the box all along and that the line is fine.He said they had all kinds of problems with boxes not working properly

What I want to see is the DES MOINES city councel revoke Mediacoms contract with Des Moines and for a new cable company to come in. When we had ATT cable we had way better service. Another thing I would like to see is some competition. The cable companys claim they need to monopolize in order to be cost effective. Monopolys prove to be bad no matter how just the cause may seem. If you have had BAD run ins with these sleezebags then CALL your Des Moines city councel person. We can run them out on a rail. Im sick of paying 151.00 per month for crap service.
Thanks

I am going to file my own rip off report about Mediacom. Hope you will read it as well.
I have filed with the Better Business Bureau in Des Moines but am getting no resolutions there. I am considering going to the attorney general over Mediacom.

I currently switched to another server who has been great and the bundled pack is a real savings. Mediacom has commercials representing that satelite as bad reception it hasnt been the case, even in a bad storm here in Iowa the cable came back up. I experienced worse with Mediacom.
There is a school of thought in business that a customer service is most important because that customer service person is the face of a company. Customers directly deal with them rarely a CEO or owner. So the impression from customer service is tantamont in a companies success.

Think about it, if you are a CEO sitting somewhere but your consumers are being met with horrible customer service, it wont matter what services you offer at what price, the consumer will go elsewhere cause the trust is broken.
Like yours was, and mine.

sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company your comments on this policy are welcome! Don't Get Charged Extra If You Cancel Your Mediacom Service.

Check your billing statements if you ever decide to cancel your service.Total up the number of months usage wtih them. You will recieve a bill for an extra month of service that you no longer have.

In other words,if you drop them after 6 months of service, you will be billed 7 times total. One final monthly bill in advance.

Then you need to call them and explain. They won't call you. They blow it off as standard operating procedure and tell you to ignore that final bill.Fine and dandy, but how many inattentive people have they taken financially for an extra months service that they shouldn't have.

3 seperate times I've had Mediacom and dropped them, and thankfully all three times I paid attention to my total months usage and disputed the final bill. They proclaim innoccence and no deliberate wrong doing, though I seriously wonder.

Call Qwest. You can actually bundle home service, long dist, wireless, and DIRECTV (if you do not live in an apartment), and HSI on one billing. In some ares of Des Moines the HSI has up to 7MB downloading.
