A few weeks ago I noticed some small charges on my bank account, via my checkcard, which I had not made. While they were for small amounts of $1 and $3 I was concerned since obviously someone had gotten a hold of my checkcard number and was using it. On Dec. 19, 2008 I went into Bank of America to report the fraudulent usage and charges and they immediately canceled my checkcard. They reassured me this was the best route to take, since it was only my checkcard and not my bank account that was hacked.

On Friday January 2, 2009 I received a letter from Bank of America alerting me that a charge from mediamogulme.com in the amount of $29.95 that was initially presented to the bank on Dec 22 was forced through on Dec 30. I was floored! I again went into my bank and spoke with the same representative. I was told that this company had tried to present the charge on Dec 22 and when it did not go through had called Bank of America and told them that I had given them permission to force this charge through!!!! I have never heard of this company nor been on their website. I am now having to jump through hoops to prove this to Bank of America!!

I will also file a police report (so that I can FREEZE my credit reports) as well as contact the BBB and the Federal Trade Commission. I had purchased many items online, all from companies claiming secure submissions. I am not sure where my checkcard was stolen from, but am also thinking of signing up for Lifelock - I fear additional, larger charges!!

It is a real shame that this is happening so frequently.
