I had to get a CT scan and I called Mega months before the scan. I asked them to add a rider to my policy that would cover the scan. She told me that the rider would have a $500 deductible, I would pay 20% and they would pay 80%. I asked the woman several times if this was correct. Yes, this is what we cover. I repeatedly asked her because i did not want a bill for thousand of dollars. Yes, that's what we cover. I have had scans in the past. My hospital charges the insurance company $8600 for a full body scan. A typical scan costs between $300-800 (I have researched this on the web, talked to Blue Cross/Blue Shield, talked to a doctor friend and also a friend that works in the emergency room. They all confirmed this was correct. That's another story in itself with the hospital price.). Blue cross paid $1500 for my past scans. I get my bill from the hospital. Mega paid $860 and now I have a bill for $7,750. I called Mega and they said no, that wasn't what the rider covers. I told her what I was told (they are the professionals, right? I believed what they told me.).

No, that isn't true. I told her that they need to cover what they told me. She said that wouldn't and did i want to file a complaint. Yes, I want to file a complaint. I haven't heard a word from them and it's been 2 weeks now. I sent a letter to the hospital. I haven't heard from them either. I cannot afford to pay $7,750. When I called the hospital he told me that I did indeed have crappy insurance. I told him why should I be penalized for having crappy insurance but they would accept $1500 from Blue Cross. I'm so distraught that now I have a $7700 ct scan bill! i am getting no help from anyone on this matter. I don't know what to do now. Mega pays crap on these bills. I have several hundred dollars of unpaid medical bills because I didn't do this or this wasn't done or i looked at them cross eyed. They are the worst. Their policies are a load of crap. So isn't the NASE. I bought the extra rider to pay over what Mega pays. That was totally useless.

With regards to your comments on complaints. Since whoever is reading this is obviously on this site, type in Mega Health and you get 14 listings. The vast majority of them are ex-agents that could not hack it in sales with the company. Type in Blue Cross and you get 36 listings, the vast majority of which are complaints from consumers just like the lady who posted this.

The company has catastophic policies with limits and has other good policies also. If you want something cheap, and take the cheap way out, then that is the risk you take. My car insurance company called me not long ago and said I could reduce my bill by pulling off unnecessary things like $30/day toward a rental car if I am in an accident. If I remove that, knowing full well that I had an accident in the past and needed it, then why would I wine to them later. You should have kept the testing coverage despite what you were told. And, assuming your story is 100% accurate (I have had people tell me that they really have no money right now, so insure for the minimum until money gets better - later something happens and they conveniently forget about what they said), that does not mean that all 5,000 agents are bad.

Now, whoever wrote the part about profit and trips, you have got to be kidding me. Do you think other insurance companies do not reward brokers with trips? There are stories about other companies (not Mega) even rewarding doctors for keeping patients out of the office! Name one insurance company that is not interested in profit. ONE. I'm sorry, are you saying that companies are supposed to work at a loss every year? Are we agents supposed to work for free?????

I pay $4.30 per gallon for gas to sometimes go 250 miles roundtrip for one possible sale, that I have no guarantee of getting. So your comment on profit is garbage. I manage to make it work. No one is holding a gun to someone's head to buy a policy. The fact is, that there are multiple policies available and there are many combinations in them. The agent goes to people to explain how they work. If the person wants the policy great. If they don't. Oh well. Grow up.

The only way to get a good solid policy is to buy a Major Medical PPO plan with a reputable company. The policy you have is a Catastropic Policy with lots of limits. The company actually makes about 15% profit on all policies. Where other companies make about 6% profit. I am so sorry to see you where taken by this so called called insurance company. I am scammed into selling their product, just so someone above me could make more money. It is all about the money at that place. They spend about 1 million or more on company trips a year for the sales people and sales managers.

I would advise you to always read your policy. Find someone else who has the plan and see if it pays well. Check out the state department of insurance website for legitimate complaints. Ask hospitals/doctors in your area what plans are good. Sometimes they can steer you in the right direction. Any company that says "An agent has to see you at your home/office to get the coverage". That is a dead give away that the policy is not a good one! Notice Mega does not have their plan on the internet like other companies. They are nothing but a bunch of money hungry dogs!

Don't be condescending to me. I am not looking for a free ride. I did not lie about anything. If you re-read this you will see that when i did call Mega this is what they told me about the rider coverage. I did tell the signing agent what was going on with the cancer when we sat down and signed up for this crappy, useless plan. He told me not to put the rider on until i needed another ct scan which was another 6 months. He said it would'nt be a problem. I followed his instructions.

Nothing to clarify about BC. It's also a personal issue why I didn't have BC anymore regardless. BC has nothing to do with my problem with Mega. Did you ever think that different states have different policies?? To bad you had to pay all of that out of pocket expenses. I was smart about my expenses. I am insured now. It's a great feeling to be insured by a reputable, honest insurance company.

Why would you have not put this rider on when you purchased the policy. You clearly stated You had cancer before. I don't understand why you did this over phone? DID you not tell your signing agent that this might just be THE BIGGEST
OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE you are familiar with. Did BC drop you because of these test with short notice? The story's not panning out please clarify.

How COULD YOU
NOT POTRAY THIS CONCERN TO an agent that was sitting in front of you.
YOU HAVE RESPONSABILITYS not only to you but to the agent so they can meet your needs. The rider worked for me just like it described. But I didn't wait until

i had ordered the scan to buy the rider. One CANCER SURVIVOR TO THE OTHER
I WAS ABLE TO GO TO WHO I WANTED WHEN I WANTED AND THE STOP LOSS
WORKED PERFECT. Yes I had $6500 out of my pocket this year but mega paid the
rest of a $95000 bill year to date. Did I mention the cancer rider covered my deductibles. Everyone wants something for nothing. Get the big picture

a lot of other states We are uninsurable NOW.

If you look at what this customer was expecting. I would say something reasonable..

if the bill is $8,600, and the customer is expecting a $500 deduct. the insured should be expecing the carrier to cover the bill after the first $500...= $7,100

If you live in Mass, you should have called your agent. Why call someone in Texas? And, more importantly, why did you not buy the coverage to begin with? The Mega policies are difficult to understand, but they are primarily for healthy people who are more focused on catastrophic claims.

Oh yeah...you also did not mention how much money you saved in the mean time while you had the policy did you? If you save thousands per year, and twice in your life you have a bill, I think you need to recognize that.

Do you have a $0 deductible on your car insurance? I bet you don't. Why is that? Well, there is a cost savings isn't there? You don't get into a car accident every day, do you?

If you will reread my first report, I said that I had called months before I had to have the scan. I have had cancer for 7 years now. Do you think I am am ignorant and don't know about pre-existing conditions??

Also, I live in Masssachusetts, if you're so knowledgeable about this stuff, read up on Mass. laws. Do a little research before you go blasting people. Mega employee are not trained properly. I called telling the woman exactly what i was looking for and she told me I needed that specific rider. She obviously didn't know what she was talking about and I assumed that she did because she is the expert. She should be informing me about the proper rider.

Now I am stuck with this bill that Mega said I was covered for. I have no problems paying my bills. I have problems with so-called insurance companies that lie about paying the bills. Like all the other reports. Mega is a crock that steals your money.

I am a former employee of Mega and you are living in a fantasy land if you think that you can have a CT Scan ordered by your doctor and then just call and add the rider to your policy. If it were that easy someone who was just diagnosed with cancer could just call and add the cancer policy rider. A couple of months after the Scan was ordered - that would be pre-existing. Surely you have heard of pre-existing Right? You paid no more than $100 in extra premiums for adding the rider and you expect the company to just fork over $9000. That is the entire point of insurance. YOu need to purchase insurance and be informed about what riders you are purchasing just in case the need arises.
