Six years ago when we started our own business, I looked into a private health insurance policy. A salesman came over, and I explained that I needed a high deductible major medical policy. He told me he had just what we were looking for, and explained all of the wonderful coverage we would receive, such as one million dollars of lifetime coverage. We have been paying for all of our small medical bills out of pocket, which I fully expected, even though I turned in claims, and they always went unpaid. We should have at least had our 1 doctor's visit a year covered, but they never even paid that.

Now, my husband has been in a horrible motorcycle accident. When I gave the hospital my insurance card, she started calling him a cash patient right away, as she knew he wasn't covered for much of anything. Hospitalization is only covered for $500 a day, the room cost $1600 a day. They only pay $500 for xrays, he had xrays, catscans, and mri's. They pay $50 for the doctor's visits, I have no idea what the bill is going to be, but we are going to be saddled with debt for years to come. I feel so foolish for not having read the policy word for word, I relied on the salesman's pitch. If I had saved the $ and never bought the insurance, I would have saved about $30,000. I want everyone to know what poor insurance they are buying when they pay for this, and am writing to every web page I can find so that hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else.

So....Im an Agent Kinda on the Fence???

They told me NASE was an opportunity to help people. I believed. Then after a couple of years in the business I started to dis-believe. Then, I went to HomeComing- if your an agent you know what I mean. At HomeComing they seem to get all the top producers like me excited on the upgraded versions of their product. They do this every year

HealthMarkets/NASE/MEGA - can not say which one I represent with certainty because it is not compliant. Anyways, they are coming out with a One Anual Dedectible. and 90% coinsurance with a 4k stop loss. We all clap. Health Markets is trying year after year to get more competitive- and they are, but there are still holes.

I still am with the company, but I am wondering if it really is worth it to break off and how easy it is. If you were a seasoned agent with the company I could use your suggestions. I owe the company over 25K if I quit- how do I transition out and where do I go?

Mega Agent talks about Ethics?????

#12Consumer Comment

Sat, July 28, 2007

First of all (double dipping) like that is illegal, and unethical.

The fact that a Mega employee can even use these words is a joke. I have a hard time believing they even understand the definition. You are lying, cheatind and stealing for a payday. You come on here and blame the consumer(victim of your scam) for not getting the proper policy. You don't have the proper policy as you are a discount plan. I could go into my experience with Mega, but what is the use. It is just like all of the others on this board.

To all Mega agents, life has a funny way of giving you what you deserve in this life. Do good by others and you will reap the rewards. Do bad by others and you will pay dearly. Here is to all of the Mega agents waiting for their Karma to kick in. I hope God is more merciful on you than you were on your clients.

Seen a People magazine lately or watched the movie Sicko? The one ingredient Mega has with every policy owner who filed a claim is that it didn't pay what they thought it would. They may have to file banruptcy, etc. etc. The policy does spell it out in black and white, and the fact is is that it's insufficient coverage. It's a sub-par plan that does exactly what you sign up for(crap).

i have been contracted with mega for a long time.any client who complains about their coverage past 10 days when they get their policy didnt check and make sure that what they bought is exactly what they wanted.every agent can not have a watchdog with them watching everything they say to a perspective client.the company does extensive agent training, making sure the new agent knows everything there is to know about their policies.follow up calls are done to clients to verify coverages after the policy is submitted.how much more can they do.they have plans with maximium out of pockets to protect clients from catastrophies, suplimental poliies to enhance the already strong plans.the policies sold today are some of the strongest ever in my opinion.i get btired of hearing the phrase"and when i used the policy it didnt pay the way i thought it would".that is nonsense.if we didnt pay claims and were so bad we wouldnt be in business in a highly regulated industry.

When clients contact the state insurance depts.how come all these problems from this website do not come up.it's because a lot of them are nonsense.we do not broker our plans through every insurance broker out there.we make sure that who we hire is well trained on every aspect of the plans we offer.so all that these bogus complaints are accomplishing is not allowing a client to deal with,in my opinion the best and most stable company that i have ever worked with.i am sorry for anyone who did not know what they bought and didnt read their policy before deciding to keep it or get rid of it.no one twisted their arm to buy it or keep it.the policy goes one month at a time you can cancel whenever you want to.so for all of you out there who have worked with this company and couldnt make it happen,it's your loss, and clients of honest agents do not have these problems they read their policy and they know what they bought.

Best opportunity in the world?

#12UPDATE EX-employee responds

Denver,

So UGA is the best opportunity? So how's that opportunity working out for ya - you a millionaire yet? Lol.

Listen, you get the lowest commissions in the entire industry. I get a 25% commission with a full year advance from Assurant, 25% commission with a full year advance from United Healthcare and a 30% commission with a 10 month advance from World.

Let me break that down for you: Say I turn in $10,000 for the week - that's a $2,500 check. How much would you check be if you turned in $10,000? Don't forget that taken rate!

How are your renewals? I get 6% and 7%. Ask your manager what your renewals are. Also ask your manager if anyone in your office who's been there 4 years can show you how much business they has left from 4 years ago. They get reports.

Now, as you go running off to your manager when you read this here's what he'll likely say:

"They only get paid on approved business and get charged back if something cancels so independent agents don't end up making anything."

Well I guess you have to say SOMETHING when the competition pays much better. First of all, all of our business goes through because we have 5 or 6 carriers to use. Secondly, yes, if a policy cancels before a year we get charged back the pro-rata - we keep the commission for how long it was on the books and charged back the unearned amount.

You get charged back to. Except any unearned commission that's charged back goes into a debt account, costs you 12% interest and also eats up any renewal income you have coming.

For the record, my persistency is 98%. That means 98% of everything I write stays on the books for a year. Actually, my clients stay with me forever. I only sign up small business owners. Are you just signing up small business owner? Or are you driving to apartment complexes and hoping they have a checking account?

I can meet with my clients, and do, but I can also sign people up online. That great for that referral that's 3 hours away. What do you do with that referral who's 3 hours away? Oh...put a lot of gas in your car. New flash for ya - there are also very savvy people who don't want to meet with an agent. You lost that deal - I sign 'em up online.

We do all of our apps online right at the client's house which means no missing signatures or paperwork. Now, what happens if you're missing that ONE signature? No one would forge that would they? Or you have to drive all the way back?

How do reps get business at UGA? Cold-calling B leads? Wow sounds great. I don't cold call. My clients call me. Maybe you can take a box of cardboard signs and nails and start slapping them up on poles! I always dreamed of doing that in high school!

Yep you have a GREAT opportunity! Look around your office and see how many reps are making legitimate six figures. Then ask your manager how long the office has been running and hiring. Not many huh! I guess there's a LOT of lazy people out there! It certainly couldn't be the lacking product and commissions!

PS: Oh, and we get bonuses and trips to - plenty of them.

Update on Mega Life insurance scam. I am the original author of this complaint

Well, we have the final report. Out of about $100,000 in medical bills, including the airlift, radiology, lab work, trauma team, and hospital, Mega left us owing $72,000!
I am hoping that anyone Googling "Mega Life" will read this web page, and won't buy their so called "insurance". We are devastated.

I am amazed at the things written on this site about Mega Life and Health Insurance Company. First thing I noticed were the quote so called Customers that had Horrible experiences with Mega but yet are very happy with their PAST health care provider?? I also noticed that the quote so called customer that had the most derogatory things to say knew A lot of insurance jargon that is not typical of anyone that does not have an insurance license??

I also notice the so called customer and EX agents that had the worst things to say about this company used the most vulgar language and expressed the strongest degree of unprofessionalism of any list on this site! From all of the good things I have read and bad things most of all what I have seen are Independent agents that are abusing Free speech in a bad way to eliminate competition for sales. I am a DSL with this company and have been selling their products for half a decade now.

It amazes me at the feedback left on this site from new agents that could not make the cut that agree with negative feedback regarding the companies coverage because they now sell a cheaper product making statements like I hope my Mega Customers stay on the books long enough to pay back the advances? If any felt like the product was bad, why would they wish A BAD product on any client if they had any ethics at all?

Bottom line is this is GREAT company with Great ethics and professionalism. Sure, the product portfolio with this companies offering to their customers continues to improve as they continue to grow and become more competitive in the marketplace. However, even the old products had their place. With that being said, ALL derogatory info that I have read on this site is basically outdated and FALSE.

All the EX-Agent comments are about products that are not even offered anymore, and when those products were offered if the agent presented the product the right way they worked great for the client even way back when.

This company has been in business about 25 years and are licensed in 49 states. Multiply 25+ years by 49 states and the complaint ratio is very slim. I have Mega Health insurance myself and have sold it to my own family! How's that for believing in what you do, what you offer to a client, and an honest way to make a living by achieving the companies mission state of Helping Other People Every Day! (HOPE).

If you want more detail on the CURRENT PLANS visit the companies information website healthinsurancesavings . c o m

The company does a thorough back ground check on any new recruit that it bring on board and tries it best to ensure that it contracts honest people. Sure there is a higher turn over in any sales organization in America more so than in Retail or Corporate because some people simply are not self disciplined enough to make themselves work, and sometimes they are too afraid to ask for more training when they need it, and sometimes, the trainer should recognize when a Rookie needs additional help and make sure they get it. No one is perfect, but we can all strive to do better.

This is a Great Company to work for, and it has a superior product in my opinion to any thing else in the market place. I am sure most independents agents that might respond to this would not agree because we (Mega) are competition for them. No I won't name any names because I think that is CHEAP. But I can tell you there is a reason Mega does not let brokers offer it's products. There is no need to. Mega agents have EVERYTHING in it's portfolio to help each and every client we get in front of. Due to underwriting someone who may not medically qualify for the best priced products are always advised where they can get help, and in most cases the Mega agent can even help with that!

If you are a customer reading this and thinking about going with Mega vs. the competition I can tell you this.....Ask both companies to show you in writing what they offer including the SCHEDULES of payments for future claims, and the limitations on how both pay. Go with WHAT IS IN WRITING with whom ever you choose! If you are a Rookie or potential agent selling this companies product or considering to do so, I can tell you take all the negative stuff on this site and ask your field leaders that they can show you in writing to contradict the negative. Heck contact your local Department of Insurance and you will find out for yourself this company is an honest and licensed company.

Anyone that is considering working for this company and has what it takes to actually enjoy working with people and being successful do so, this is the best opportunity in the world. You simple will not find anything better anywhere, if you enjoy working with and helping other people. Anyone looking to get into this just for the money, I would advise you look elsewhere as you WILL not be successful if that is the only reason you would consider working for this great company. Don't get me wrong, the rewards are great for those that stay with the company, and the pay is great in the beginning as well for anyone who has what it take to be dedicated to ensure for yourself that you understand the product, understand the concept, and whose ethics are in line with the 10 commandments. I'm not nearly as religious as I should be, but I can say this to anyone that has negative comments about this great company. Let ye who is not guilty of sin cast the first stone...

It is so interesting the all of the bad things ex agents are saying about this company now work for ALL the competition as brokers. Guess that's a great recruiting tool for you guys, othersie why would you waste your time??????? This company is honest and ethical and goes above and beyond to try and contract the same type people to offer it's product.

Also, I have notice several people that have made comments about becoming brokers and switching their old Mega customers to the products they now sell.

First of all (double dipping) like that is illegal, and unethical. Present your case to your local DOI and see what they have to say about what you are doing! If you did you job, when you were contracted with MEGA you would never have a legal reason to switch a customer to another product. But, heah I bet that double commision is awesome. Oh, well......Sweet dreams?????????????????

Mega has changed, FAT chance...

#12UPDATE EX-employee responds

I am embarrassed to say I spent 11 months at Mega and while there has been "slight" inmprovements in the plans as I can see they are still limited and the bottom line is you can go to other legitimate carriers and get themm more coverage for less in most instances. Try a Health Savings account which MEGA 's is priced 4 times what normal or real HSA's are worth. Stacy, stop drinking the kool aid for a week or too and you will realize what a scam they are. I gotta go and answer the harassing collection letters that UGA, UICI, NASE, MEGA/ HealthMarkets, of course they claim I owe them money even though my taken rate was 86%, I made Senior Agent and sold alot for them. Fortunately as a Broker noiw I have been able to upgrade all my clients and I make 3 times the $$$ selling real insurance.

Stacey, get off it and stop trying to defend these scum, I have been down to Grant Boen's office and seen how they operate.

Which plan did you have? Mega's plans have COMPLETELY changed from 6 yrs ago.

HI,

Which plan did you have? Mega's plans have COMPLETELY changed from 6 yrs ago. Back then , yes, it was limited coverage, mostly people who go for that type of plan, are looking at strictly price. There are some sleazy agents out there, or were. You should have read your handbook as with any insurance. There is no health insurance company that is spot free. It's impossible to please everyone. If you had the Health Choice, then yeah, that is a very limited coverage. Mega's Signature plan is an excellent plan with a 2,000,000 lifetime maximum. You pay your deductible for anything catastophic and then the plan pays 100%, much simpler and better than the plans from 6 years ago.
