Mega Life And Health NASE - Blackstone - UICI - UGA Warning. Ripoff, Don't work for this company. They kill you with charge backs. ripoff North Richland Hills Texas
Mega Life and Health (and the rest of the other names they fall under. Blackstone/ UICI/ Mega/ HMAMG/ AMG/ UGA/ Health Markets). Don't fall for their junk. Their policies are garbage and full of loopholes, your clients will drop them. When they do you will be sunk as an agent. Dan Carter (Dan.Carter@hmamg.com 817-255-3855) will harass you then give you over to slime ball creditors who will harass you even more day and night. You can also call Mark Hauptman (Vice President and CFO 817-255-5200) and ask him why they do this to their agents.
Here is the deal. When you sign up they will tell you to pay $250+ to join (what?) then if you leave their horrible company before a year is up because your conscience will not allow you to work for them any further, they hit you with huge charge backs. This, all the while you will spend a fortune on bought leads because the leads they provide you with are anywhere from 1-4 years old. Folks, never work for a company that tells you that you have to pay money to join them. REAL insurance companies do not do that.
Check out Fortis, they are a REAL insurance and actually pay claims. How about just going to work for a company that sells supplemental insurance like Colonial? There are so many good companies that you don't need to waste your time and money on rip offs like MEGA (Health Markets/ UGA/ NASE).
By the way, NASE (National Association for the Self Employed) is just a guise to sell insurance. Their intent is not to sell benefits or a membership but rather the insurance and that is illegal if you know the insurance laws. Because they have great lawyers they got around this by offering a membership. Go check out why this company has more complaints than any other in any state.

How it was explained to me...

I was told very specifically "there are no charge-backs," which essentially is true - as long as you work for MEGA. They explained it to me this way: basically you get half of your 20% commission advanced to you (10% of the yearly premium, in other words), and the other 10% goes in your "company account" to help pay down your advances from clients who cancel. At some point 2-3 years later, once you have a significant amount of renewals, your renewals and the new clients you sign pay off this "company account," and you can start receiving all of your 20% advance up front.
If, however, you leave the company before that account is paid off, you owe them whatever is left in the account, since they've already advanced you that money. They DO charge you back while you sell for them, but all of the charge backs are taken care of inside your company account, so you never feel it, unless you leave the company. Just my 2 cents.

What you don't realize is a lot of division and district managers during interviews state "there are no chargebacks." When I was hired it was stated over and over again during training that no chargebacks would occur - you got paid just by submitting the application. I asked a pointed question to my division manager before taking the job of what happens when a policy cancels. His "verbatim" response was "you do not get charged back." That would have been his opportunity to talk about the debt account, which he chose not to do.
Never once during training did anyone go over the debt account, how it works and the interest. Yes, I'd expect to pay back money that was not earned, however a lot of managers are luring people into Mega who have never sold anything commission-based and are leading them to believe they do not have to pay back the advance.
To make it even more clear, during a training session one manager put it like this:
"With other insurance companies if a policy cancels you have to pay back the advance. With UGA you never have to pay it back."
That's a blatant lie.

Most of what you say is misguiding

I have represented Mega for 11 years and have found most of what you said to be misguiding. The "charge backs" you are referring to are advances you received. Those advances represent a year's premium up front. You are right, they want that money back if you leave too soon. That is a responsible company practice. Do you expect a company to advance you a year's commission without it either being paid back by the client's monthly payments or you if you leave too soon?
I have found Mega to pay claims based on what the client purchased. They pay what they say they will pay and no more/no less. For instance, if you do not sell doctor office visit coverage, they don't pay it. If you don't sell supplemental outpatient coverage, they don't pay it. Don't blame a company for what you failed to do, sell a complete package.
Here in Georgia, we do not require NASE membership, it is sold as an option. The clients I have had who buy NASE are thrilled with the additional benefits.
I think you are just sour because you did not explain the coverage well enough for people to keep it so that your back end account would build up to your benefit instead of what happened. You got the money up front!!! You expect any company to pay that big of an advance percentage without expecting you to perform? Your client's monthly premium payments would have paid all those advances back and you would eventually have had a clear account and be receiving monthly renewal checks like the rest of us who worked hard and honestly for it.
Quit crying and work for a living.
