Mega Life & Health Insurance Bait & Switch Hurst Nationwide
I had a stint put in my heart in 2005 while I was still a resident of ND. We moved to FL later that year and the coverage I had in ND could not be transferred as Fl. I tried many different companies, but no one would cover me due to my prior heart problem, but they would cover my wife.
Mega life res[onded to one of my inquiries of health insurance companies and an agent stopped by. I explained my situation to him, discussed the deductible and that I was looking for major medical coverage for my self and my wife. He quoted me a price of $ 573 for both my wife and I for the deductible we had agreed upon. As he was leaving, I asked him about copies of what I had signed and the coverages, specific limts etc of the policy. He assured me that he would be notified of when I received the policy and he would be there to go over the policy with us. If it was not what we wanted, we could cancel the policy.
Over the next few weeks I received a large amount of mail from Mega and AFS ( they say they are not affiliated, yeh right)concerning drug, dental as well as a accident, critical illness and vison policy. I assumed these were sub policies of the major medical policy and waited for that policy to arrive. After 2 weeks or so of waiting for the major medical policy to arrive, I called Mega and was informed that I had received all the policies I had applied for. They said that I had never applied for the major medical and that all I had on myself was vision ( I do not need glasses) and accident and that the critical illness was only issued on my wife.
This coverage was no where near the coverage we had discussed with the agent and believed we had signed up for. I have never heard from the agent since.
During my my call to Mega, I explained what had transpired and said that I wanted to cancel the coverage and get my premium payment refunded. I was informed that they had a 10 day inspection period with the right to cancel and they would not refund any monies and this 10 days had passed. My pleas to use some common sense with the person on the phone fell on deaf ears and they would not refund my money.
I have since filed a grievance with the Florida Insurance Commissioner and we are awaiting a response.
I wish I had found this site before I signed up with Mega as I would never have been so trusting. My advice to anyone that gets approached my Mega is don't just walk away - run like H---!
