I was shopping the Meijers in Commerce Township because I was around there. I usually don't shop at this Meijer because it isn't the closest one to my house. Let me tell you, this Meijer customer service was extremely rude with me.

I went to buy a bottle of Motrin. I noticed that the price didn't scan correctly. It scanned $7.96 and the bottle was clearly labeled with a price tag $7.36! I took it over to customer service after I was finished buying it. I said the price is not correct and I would like to keep it. After waiting for about 15 minutes for her to unload all of her money, she said, "Here is your difference." She handed me only 60 cents. Then she said, "You would have got $2.50 award if you would have notified that cashier that the price wasn't correct." I was thinking, What?! I did everything correctly. Why didn't she give me the money? She then shoved in a slip inside the drawer that she wrote up and it said "$2.50".

Then, I decided to take the Motrin back because they were not abidding by the rule. That took another 20 minutes for her to get the money. I was wondering what law I broke? Where does it say in the Michigan Pricing law that I'm not entitled to my bounty?? I never heard of not getting the money because you didn't inform the cashier.

I decided to try to rebuy the Motrin again!! We asked the cashier about the bounty and she said there was no such thing. The cashier told us that you get the bounty at the return desk.

This confused me!! The girl at the return desk told us that you get the bounty at the cashier but THE CASHIER told us that you get the bounty at the return desk. They really did contradict each other. We went up to the otehr cashier on the other side of the store to ask politely what they mean?? She called up the manager on the phone for about 10 minutes. Then, she started to get nasty with us. She said, "So YOU WANT YOUR TWO DOLLARS?" Then, she looked the other way. She was insulting us telling us that we were poor and worthless. (By the way, we are actually quite on the rich side, not to brag.) I can't believe it, all I was trying to do was get the bounty BY LAW. I didn't go OUT LOOKING FOR A MISPRICED medicine.

Okay, I went home to look up on google about the Meijer Price Award. I found many other stories of people who have been scammed because the manager won't give you the pricing award. I read the state of Michigan Law at home on google that Jennifer Granholm pronounced and I found nothing in it to say that I shouldn't have got my $2!! I was in the store for nearly TWO HOURS and got nothing but a headache and extremely hot & annoyed.

Now, It's not about the TWO DOLLARS!! I don't CARE about the TWO DOLLARS. I just think it's wrong that I wasn't rewarded it. Am I correct that I should have been rewarded the money?

if the item was physically marked 7.36 and it scanned at 7.96 you are intitled to the difference which was 60 cents . plus you get 10 x the amount of the improper scan not less than 1.00 and not more then 5.00. you were entitled to the max. 5.00 bounty total 6.60 plus tax on 60cents (in this case because it was a taxable item. you do not have to tell the cashier (i would if i knew about it because my time and by basic honesty is worth more than 5.60.) but say you did not know until you read your receipt. you go to the service desk or find the service coordinator and they should take care of the situation.
please remember this is not a meijer law it is a scanning law. anybody who uses a scanner in the state of michigan is held to the same standards. now.....meijer and others like this law because if used properly it saves them from being sued over scanning errors.............but used incorrectly and you can take them to court and recoop your court fees and a much bigger bounty. i belive the total is right around a max. of 500.00
i like meijer, i think they do a better job then most on giving the scanning award. they are told to do it even if you don't ask for it. unfortunately just like other companies some people feel like that award is coming right out of their very own pocket. if they new what could happen (besides making the customer mad) maybe their managers would make sure that they know how to handle it.

in response to a few naysayers. i work for meijer, i love it, been their many years and if you think you deserve the same pay that i got back in the 80's then take pride in your job. learn your job . bring the customer back by giving the scanning award when they have it coming. don't make them beg, don't make them get a manager. just wait on them. oh yes....and then talk to your friends. (on your break)
