Home of Bait & Switch!

I went to finance a 1999 f-150 kingcab truck. when i told them i would wait a couple days and get back to them, they asked me what it would take to drive the truck off the lot. We agreed on the terms i signed the papers and drove home. Not once did they ask me to bring the truck back, but when i went in to sign some papers they said i needed to sign they tried to make me take a different vehicle. When i refused to pick a different vehicle and told them that i would give them back their truck and that they give me back my $2000.00 dollar down payment and i would go somewhere else, they refused to give me back my down payment. Then they said they would call the police because i wouldn't give them back the truck until they gave me back my down payment.
i could use any help to resolve this matter thank you

#2Consumer Suggestion

Wed, June 19, 2002

I had the same issue with Brown and Brown Chevrolet on Main St in Mesa, except with my deal they had my trade. They had already put the trade on the lot for sale before the new truck had actually been financed, so when the deal was denied, they wanted like $1000 for MY trade to pay for cleaning it (which I could tell was never done anyway!)

Anyway, to make a long story short, I called the police, they told me that it was a civil matter. So, I took a cab home that night and the next morning I scoured over my contract.

What do you know, on the back of the contract, about half way down, it's in writing. It says something along these lines: If the deal is terminated for any reason, wether by the dealer, the bank, or the consumer, any and all down payment funds or property trades must be returned in a timely manner and in like condition as when they were traded.

Hopefully that helps.

Good luck!
