Melissa Adams is a Home and Garden party designer, She takes orders and does not place them. She finaly put our order in 1 month after our party. But the money was cashed 2 days after the party. She didn't place it until we were on her case about it for 1 week then she placed it! Holly union, Illinois

I am not an "employee", I am an Independent Designer with Home and Garden Party. I am sorry you had this experience but I was curious about the situation because I may have some insight. First off if you were the hostess of the party then the closing date should have been set and the party orders submitted. Once the hostess has collected all of the money and chosen her benefits the party should be closed as soon as those funds are verified and deposited into the Designer's bank account. If you were a guest, then I will tell you there are many things that could have happened.
The Designer has to verify funds before placing an order or risk NSF and other charges. If she had checks to wait for clearance that can take an unusually long time depending on the banks. The Designer pays for the orders out of her HGP checking account. She has to be sure the funds are good. Another possibility is the hostess. I have dealt with a hostess who for weeks had not contacted me to choose her free benefits. It took me two weeks to get payment from the party as none of the guests had paid that night. After having no contact I finally submitted the order with what I had. We try to give some leeway for people and their paydays, etc. but this business has to be efficient too. Most people understand that when you attend a home party, you pay when you order. Sometimes outside orders take time but the closing date should have been discussed the night of the party so there would not be too many surprises.
If you were the hostess for this party then the Designer should have had communication with you all along the process. I even call my Hostesses when I see by the tracking that their packages are about to arrive. I apologize for the experience you had and hope you know that these issues are the exception, not the norm.
