First, This is not a civil rights violation, It is the companies right to go above and beyond the DOT mandated minimum to protect you, themselves, and the traveling public.  Second, more and more of the major companies are doing these tests because of the high costs of litigation when a driver who is high on an illegal substance inevitably kills someone.  Third, these tests do not go back two years, 90 days as mandated by law.  Fourth, and most importantly, We as CDL holders have to verify to the states that issue our licenses that we have not used any schedule one narcotics (marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, and so on) in 5 years and do not currently use them in order to LEGALLY possess our CDL.  You dont have to drink water for these tests, dont have to pee and handle a nasty cup (though they still perform a urine test as mandated by the DOT) and they dont hurt.  Which leads me to only one conclusion that concerns me.  What are you afraid of them finding?  I hope nothing, but it doesnt seem that way.  I drive for Melton, and believe me, the benefits and pay FAR outweigh the small inconvenience of a hair test.
