I have always shopped Menards during their 11% Rebates. NEVER again!! This time I was waiting for my rebate to arrive by mail like usual and it didn't show up. I tracked it online and it showed that it was REDEEMED. I NEVER redeemed it. I contacted the local PD who made a police report and I went to the local Menards in Ann Arbor asking for the rebate check back and for video.

They couldn't find the "hard" copy of the rebate. I said you are suppose to sign them and turn them in. They said, if the customer is giving the cashier a hard time about turning it in, then the cashier lets them keep it!!

I had to contact the "THIRD PARTY" company that issues the checks to give me more information so Menards  can find it in their system. I got the info and Menards found it in their system and gave the information and video to the local PD. My local PD found the guy who used it and HE admitted to using it.

Now, I get an email from the third party that issues the rebates stating that since it was REDEEMED that i will not be getting a new rebate. That is ridiculous! I have PROOF of a guy that stole my rebate and admitted to using it, yet I can't get a new rebate.

I sent Menards a letter and all they said was that they will work with the local PD. NOTHING about sorry or we'll give you a new rebate.

Their rebate policy is horrible. RED FLAGS- #1 it comes on a postcard and NOT in an envelope #2- clearly state on the postcard for everyone to see that they are not responsible for lost or stolen checks #3 it shows the dollar amount on the postcard for everyone to see #4 you are suppose to sign it, BUT they don't check ID so anyone can steal your rebate.

Menards doesn't care about honest people, they care about all those people that steal other peoples rebates. NEVER SHOPPING THERE AGAIN

Menards needs to change their rebate fulfillment process

I just wanted to add that I, too, have had the same experience with a stolen and fraudulently redeemed Menards rebate check. In my case, it was a dishonest Postal Service employee who, while handling/sorting the mail, was stealing these rebate checks of which one was mine. I have to commend the police and the USPS postal investigator for solving the thefts and the case has now been turned over to the local county prosecutor for filing of charges adjudication through the court system.

But the point I wanted to make is to reiterate the flaws in the Menards rebate fulfillment system that makes cases like this not only just possible but LIKELY. As this person said, Rebate International should NOT be sending out the rebate checks on those flimsy heavy paper stock post cards which anyone and everyone can see the rebate amounts! The rebate checks should be sent inside very nondescript business-sized envelopes with nothing on the outside to indicate that it is a rebate check. Or EVEN BETTER, Rebate International should offer customers the option of receiving their rebate checks via email. This would be a LOT more secure and safe than a physical paper postcard check. Rural King offers this so why can't Menards / RI too?

But the most egregious thing that Menards does .. or DOESN'T DO I should say ... is to require a matching, positive photo ID when someone tries to redeem a rebate check in one of their stores!!! This simple requirement would prevent probably about 99% of the fraud that is being perpetrated currently with stolen rebate checks. What good would it be to a thief if they couldn't redeem a stolen check because they couldn't provide the legitimate owner's photo ID?!? That would prevent the redemption fraud as well as significantly reduce the theft side as well.

Come on Menards! .. DO THE RIGHT THING AND REQUIRE A PHOTO ID THAT MATCHES THE REBATE RECIPIENT'S NAME AND ADDRESS WHEN A REBATE REDEMPTION IS ATTEMPTED! STOP THE FRAUD DEAD IN ITS TRACKS!!!

I see no reason why Menards wouldn't do this?!? To NOT do it is, frankly, tantamount to being complicit to this fraud that criminals are perpetrating. Makes me wonder who Menards values more and who they are catering to more ... their loyal customers or the criminals?!?
