In April of 2009 I walked in to Chandler Mercedes Benz in hopes of buying a new SUV or Wagon. I worked very hard in keeping my credit good so this day could finally come. I met with Sales Rep Ryan ******. He sat me down at his desk as we looked online at SUV's and Wagons. I thought that he should take me on the Lot but since this is Mercedes I thought things were done different. He showed me a few G and ML Classes and said that I need to do a credit App and if I am approved we will then move forward. Three days later I am contacted with the good news that I am approved for 45K. I was then told that I should not get too excited as there is not much on the LOT for that small amount.
He asked that I come down and showed me this Black on Black CLK 350 Coupe. He stated that is was all i could get or I have to walk away with nothing. I took the car but after a week of driving I advised that this car was too small and I needed something bigger. He told me that he would be glad to help me, If i brought him 20k.
Since then I have spent a year looking to buy another Car that My family and I can enjoy.
I have called the dealership and was told that Ryan was doing that to a lot of customers and therefore was fired. They also tried to see if I could qualify for a second loan as they were not going to take back the CLK in trade. I am screwed and I want the world to know what has happen to me!!!! I am stuck paying on a car that I can not use.

I would agree you do not have a legitimate complaint. As quoted from this report posting what the dealer told you..

"He stated that is was all i could get or I have to walk away with nothing."

So this dealer did nothing but tell the truth. You simply did not like the truth.

And here is some more truth. Don't expect any better treatment from a Mercedes Benz dealership then any other, when your budget is actually Honda or Ford.

Well to be completely honest, I personally have paid more per month to drive a new Ford, then it would have cost me to lease a new Benz.

If there was any form of bait and switch, high pressure or unethical tactics used by this dealership to sell you a car, I would be backing you up 100%, and anyone who knows me on this site would agree.

The only pressure here, was you putting it on yourself that somehow since you worked on your credit, you deserve better treatment then the rest of us. Nope, it does not work that way. We ALL have to learn to live with what we can afford, and make sacrifices. We all need to purchase based on what is most practical for us and our family if applicable.

Perhaps this employee was fired for "doing this" to other customers..but from this report I do not really see what he did wrong. He presented you with the option to buy what was in your price range, or walk. Did he do anything to prevent you from walking other then tell you that you simply do not qualify for the vehicle you want?

It just seems your expectations were unrealistic, and that just because this was a Mercedes dealership, they were going to finance a vehicle that was beyond your means. If this dealership would have approved a vehicle beyond your means..THEN the complaint would be legitimate..and too many dealer do this eventually leaving the customer with an empty space where the vehicle used to be parked.

This is a ridiculous analogy. One needs food to survive. You do not NEED a car to survive. See the difference?

Am I missing something? It never occured to you to INQUIRE about the pre-owned models? Ryan is a salesman, he's not your mother.

I would expect you, as a consumer, to do your homework and explore ALL of your options prior to shelling out $45k. Not Ryan. YOU. It's your money, not his.

"Like I said, I will let them take advantage of me once, but what they have failed to realize is that Mercedes have lost a customer that would have gladly purchased three more cars over the next ten years for my children."

How so? You couldn't get the loan for the car YOU wanted but you expect to nail three more loans for similar amounts over the next decade? For your kids even?

Good dealerships will ask you what vehicle your attending to buy, they'll ask you what kind of job you have and your financial status, then they look up your credit.  You had good credit but you didn't have the financial means to make the payments on what you wanted.  Mercedes could only put you in something that didn't fit your needs.  The salesmen suggested it to you and you should have turned it down.  He's a salesmen so he's still going to try and sell you something under the directions of his sales manager.  Defintley buyer's remorse.

   Why in the world would you buy an expensive car that was too small for your needs?    It doesn't take a week of driving to figure this out. 

   Do you realize that once you buy a car, it's yours?  No dealer is going to just take it back because you later decide that it's not big enough.  The moment you drove it home it became a used car and lost thousands in value.  It's not like buying something at Walmart.  You can't just exchange it if you decide you don't like it.

In spending this kind of money and sitting down with a Mercedes "PROFESSIONAL" I guess I was dumb to expect the best customer service around. How can it be Buyers remorse when I am looking to buy a car? The Sales Rep was going to get the SALE so why Lie about what was available to me? If I tell you that I need a car for my family and he assures me that I need to buy this one or nothing then I am going to pick something.
Silly of me to think that a mercedes benz dealer would be reputable. If what he was doing was on the up and up then he would not have been fired!!

This sounds like nothing more than a case of Buyers Remorse.  You WANTED a SUV or Wagon, but could only afford a Coupe.  So why did you buy the Coupe?   The salesman seemed pretty "matter of fact", in saying it was that or nothing.  In the end it was YOUR choice to sign on the dotted line.

I really don't know what the dealership said Ryan was doing "a lot" of, other than selling cars.  Because again unless you have left out something very major, there is no RipOff here.

By the way for 45K(or less) you could have gotten very good SUV's or Wagons from other Manufactures.  So if you learned anything perhaps it is to understand the difference between NEED and WANT.
