What should you do when a young man enters your office and hands you a Merchant Services Direct card? The answer is simple: Promptly show him the door and refuse to waste your precious time listening to his overly-rehearsed sales pitch.

The young sales agents from Merchants Services Direct who came into my office were suspicious looking characters. First, they carried no sales brochures -- not even a black and white copy: nothing! Second, they spoke about the urgency of signing their credit card processing contract -- like it was all going to disappear tomorrow!

I was immediately suspicious that all was not on the up and up here. The two well-dressed men then told me about their low processing fee of 2%. It would save me boatloads of money. Blah blah blah. I told them to leave me the contract and I would investigate the company and call them back.

What I found on the Better Business Bureau website shocked me! Poor review after poor review about Merchant Services Direct. Most of the complaints were about the super long contract length, high charges to get out of the contract, and extra charges which were hidden in tiny font in the back pages. The processing fee bill always ended up MUCH higher than what MSD sales folk stated it would be.

When I examined the contract they had given me, it matched what the BBB reviewers had stated. Hidden fees & high cancellation costs: Of course, the young salesman had told me nothing about this. I phoned him and told him Merchant Services Direct had a poor reputation and that I would not be signing any of their contracts.

So don't waste your time with these pretenders. Do your homework and get a trustworthy credit card processing company instead.
