I am reporting a sign up scam thru Discover for a Merchant Discount Health Plan in which they tricked a mechanic working for our company into supposedly authorizing our company and one particular location for this plan for $39.95 per month. The location has been closed for over TWO YEARS with only the phone number being forwarded! They played me the recording in which the employee supposedly authorized the plan, the salesperson on the phone was speaking so fast the employee couldn't understand him.

so he said "Excuse Me?" for the speel to be repeated and the saleman just kept on going and asking questions to which the employee answered, The employee then told said salesman, he wasn't authorized to approve of anything, but that part of the conversation has been deleted. We are therefore out two months that this rip off company refused to credit. They are supposedly crediting 39.95 for July, and gave me a confirmation number of R16431043 for that but time will tell. They refuse to credit May and June.

When I contacted Discover first, they referred me to the Peoples Health Express in Sunrise, Florida whose phone number is on the Discover Billing.

I am frustrated and angry that this is allowed to go on, and next will send a complaint to Discover as I have to said Medical Health Plan. I have NEVER received any information from them which would have tipped me off sooner that this scam was activated.

I got notice today of your problem with the insurance on Discover Card.  How unfortunate that your employer was not understanding and trusting that it could be taken care of without such drastic action. Since we do not share emails, I would suggest that perhaps you print out the complaint, my second entry in which i told of them refunding the charges after confronting the company ( the insurance co, not Discover).  The sales pitch is total bogus and they are very tricky.

If taking copies of the previous reports does not give your company pause to reconsider this, Iwould pursue it further further action.  This type of scam makes me livid with anger.  Doesn't seem like your company has any room for "benefit of doubt"

Good luck on your research.  I would be glad to help you but do not know how to pursue at this point.

Happened to me too

Hello, I am relieved to see that someone has spoken out about this.   This happened to me (the sales call) while I was working, and my company has just discovered the charges.  I was immediately terminated upon them figuring out where the charges were coming from and calling Merchants/Sunrise (which provided the 30 second phone call they had recorded).  The phone call was identical to how you described it above, a quick rambling of what I now know was a sales scam.  They asked me a few questions like  where I worked, confirmed the address, and apparently had pitched me this deal....all of which was a lightning quick ramble to get an "approval".  I don't think I said more than 5 words in the call.

My FORMER employer actually thinks I schemed to get this "plan" and have it charged to them in hopes that they would never catch it.   This has just happened in the past couple of days and I have already been fired, and now it is being investigated by a detective who told me that I could face charges.  Apparently they didn't take 2 seconds to google the company name or do any research before giving me the axe, otherwise they would've seen this rip off report as the first result. If there is any way the original author, or perhaps another victim of this scam is available to be contacted, please let me know.

refund

After writing to the company directly, I received an email from them today telling me that they are issuing a full refund and cancelling the policy, which, by the way was in no way authorized in the first place.
So do some research, find the company contact and write them. Perhaps you too will receive full refund
