I just received a letter, (forwarded from N.C.),
from Merchants' Credit Guide Co. located in Chicago Illinois. They are a collection agency & claim to represent Asset Acceptance who "has purchased your defaulted account",and are trying to collect $1853.98.

The letter states that the original creditor was Hurley State Bank & gives absolutely no information regarding the original creditor. I have never had any account with Hurley State Bank nor due I owe them any money. I've never even heard of them.

I called Merchants Credit Guide from Thailand, where I work & spoke with a Mr. Ken Hughes who refused to give me any information as too what the debt was about. He said I must have charged something & never paid the bill but what that "something" was he wouldn't say. He had my correct social security number & a former address in Los Angeles that I moved from in early 1992. He also said that their records showed a prior address in Long Beach CA.. I have never lived in Long Beach.

He was rude & insulting & just kept repeating that I must owe for something that I never paid for & that the creditor has been trying to collect this "MYSTERY" debt since 1992.
12 years??

I again asked him to provide me with any information as to the nature of this debt & he told me to put it in writing & they "may" be able to provide me with verification & the address of the original creditor.
I said they appeared to be running a SCAM & hung up.

I too have been contacted by Asset Acceptance for a debt that they say my husband owes. They told me that they could not speak with me and that they would need to talk to him. We have been happily married for going on 8 years, and my name appears on everything he has and vice versa, in the event something should happen then we each have complete access to everything. So I do find it very strange that they will not speak to me. IF there was any debt it would be in BOTH of our names, not just one.

Anywho, I will say that he was married before. he has been divorced from her for 10 years. If this is a result of THOSE debts the limitations have run out on those and they are now off of his credit, hence this is harassment and illegal! They are in complete violation of the Fair Debt Collection Laws and should (and will be) prosecuted.

My husband and I are in the process of filing charges. He has since then cleaned up his act (not so sure about the ex) and we are upstanding members in our community with an excellent credit score. So as far as I am concerned they can keep sending letters, it makes great lining for our children's hamster cage. Good luck to you all!

Adam Kelly-Merchants Credit Guide Co.-Fraud calling my 77 yr.old parents I live in Bangkok, Thailand

Adam Kelly of Merchants Credit Guide Co. has been
continually calling my 77 yr.old parents in North Carolina even after they informed him that I do not live there & live in Bangkok, Thailand.

They gave him my current address in Thailand & my telephone number yet he has not made any attempt to contact me by mail or phone.

Adam Kelly is attempting to collect $1853.92 on an "unknown" debt read "FRAUD" that he claims I owe from 1992.They claim to represent Asset Acceptance who "purchased" my defaulted account from Hurley State Bank.

I have never had any credit or financial relationship with Hurley State Bank nor have I ever received any payment demands from them or any notices of any kind.

My credit report shows no entries of any default regarding Hurley State Bank or Asset Acceptance.

I have filed a complaint with the FTC & my parents have been instructed to file a complaint with the Attorney Generals' office in North Carolina.

This is clearly FRAUD as evidenced by the numerous Rip Off Reports regarding Adam Kelly, Merchants Credit Guide,Asset Acceptance & Hurley State Bank.
