Yesterday, my husband received a collection notice from Merchants Credit Guide Co. in the amount of $5,537.13. I, as his wife, knew we had no bills in that amount, etc. I contacted them and they asked for the last 4 digits of his Social Security number. I gave it to them which I don't know if I've should have, and the girl related that his last 4 digits of his SS number didn't match so they were going to "clear the computer".

I was so stunned and now that I've had time to think about it, what was this all about? Do they have my husband's SS #? What do I do? This is really upsetting me as we have worked hard to have excellent credit and just who are these people and how did they have our home address, etc.?
