Merchants' Credit Guide ripoff, attempt to collect on 10+ old settled account. harassment! Chicago Illinois
I started receiving voice mails a few weeks ago from someone named Ken Hughes stating that I needed to call him back as soon as possible and that this was not a sales call. He never asked for me particularly and never stated what the call was in reference to, so I thought it was a mistake. Well I got several more calls, so I thought I had better investigate.
When I called the number he had left, all I got was recordings asking me to leave my information. After several attempts, I left a message stating that the person leaving the messages for me was very rude and never asked for me directly or explained what the calls where in reference to. I stated that since I knew that I was current with my accounts and did not owe anyone any money, to stop calling me & leaving messages.
The next day, I was home early when the phone rang. When I picked up, it immediately went to a tape recording & I got the same voice mail, I had been receiving for a few days. The following day, I received a letter in the mail from Ken Hughes of Merchants Credit Guide stating that they represented yet another collections company that had purchased my supposedly outstanding Sears account and that I could settle with them in 1 of 3 manners.
I have not had an open Sears account in nearly 15 years! That account was settled for a flat fee nearly 10 years ago. Now this company is trying to get me to pay over double what the balance would have been after the flat fee settlement! I don't think so!
This is ridicules! And the amount of calls is harassment! I've started drafting them a letter to dispute the validity of this claim. I will not pay them for something that has already been resolved and I want them to stop calling my house. I will contact a lawyer if it comes down to it.
