I received a phone call last week demanding settlement of an old account I had settled back in 2001. They quoted an account number I would have to search out to know if it had even been one of my old accounts. They said they had purchased the debt. I said there was no debt as the accounts I had in 2001 had all been settled and I owed nothing. I was asked in an ominous tone of voice if I were refusing to pay the debt.

I again reiterated there was no debt. I was referenced to a letter which I had not yet received about this supposed debt. They probably don't send it out unless someone answers the phone for their phone call. The letter I finally did receive offered to accept a settlement for 50% of the supposed amount due in a one time payment. Isn't that big of them?!

I looked up the name of Merchants' Credit Guide Co. and was relieved to have found the name on RipOffreport.com. I suspected as much. Thank you for being here. I will be contacting the State's Attorney's office about this matter in an effort to stop this credit harrassment. I have also contacted Experian and will be sending them a letter about my old accounts to get them cleared away and about this scam.

Thank you, again!!
