Merchants Credit Guide ripoff sent collection letter for 1992 unknown amoco debt of $238.78 Hauppauge New York
Received a collection letter for a balance of $238.78 from Amoco. When i called them at their (888) number was told original balance was 201.53 and was incurred in 1992.
When I told them I was unaware of any debt to amoco the girl said I would have to send a letter of dispute to their chicago address. She verified last 4 ss#. When I asked for more information on this debt she became sarcastic and replied "like what?"

Merchants' got my credit history report

I just reviewed my credit report history from the three big reporting agencies -- and there it was on one of them, an "inquiry" from Merchants' Credit Guide Co., just before I got my first demand letter from dear "Ken Hughes." So of course they had my SSAN and everything else on my credit report.
Still, I've beaten them -- and there was no further evidence on any of my reports of MCGC returning to cause damage.
I guess our reports are there for the taking by anyone with the money and a good scam.

NEVER give or in any way confirm your SS#, DOB or any other info to a debt collector over the phone! NEVER! NEVER!
Always just get a mailing address from them and then no more phone conversations.EVER.
Everything in writing! Everything certified mail/RRR. Do a search and see multiple other threads on these jerks.
Do your homework. Do an Internet search.
