Forced to have a Mercury 60HP Bigfoot on the back of the Boston Whaler Montauk because Brunswick owns both Whaler and Mercury. Motor failed and stranded my 7 year old son and I with less than 10 hours on it. Merc techs told me it was a "loose factory wire" but when I looked at the work order they found nothing and returned the boat to me.

 

Motor has never run right in 3 years. Stranded us again 5 miles in the Gulf of Mexico and I had to find a bad wiring harness. Brunswick outfits the Mercs with Chinese parts to save money, instead of Merc factory parts.

 

Wiring harness was replaced but the motor shook so bad at idle I thought it would come loose from the transom. This after a factory Merc Tech was called out to Marine Max and spent "2 days going through and testing the motor", finding a bad coil.

 

Finally found a bad plug wire and the motor is running well this week. Never again Mercury, never again!
