On 06-04-2007 I received a letter from Merchants' Credit Guide Co. stating that they had purchased my defaulted account from AT&T Corporation. The amount of the bill was $38.77. I then contacted AT&T Corporation and was advised that my account had never been in arrears and if this were the case, they would handle their own collection. AT&T also stated that only as a last resort, they would sell their defaulted accounts to a collection agency. On the letter from Merchants' Creidt Guide Co. it clearly states "All inquiries regarding this account should be addressed to our office and not to the creditor noted above, as they may not have the information readily available".

On 06-14-2007 at 17:55 Hrs., I contacted Merchants' Creidt Guide and spoke to a Giovan (sp?). I advised Giovan that I had done some research regarding this account and Merchants' Credit Guide. Giovan then became very evasive and asked me if my last four #'s of my social security number were 5084. I stated that they were not. Giovan then advise me that my name would be removed from the mailing list and that I should destroy the letter from Merchants' Credit Guide Co. I have never been in arrears to AT&T and suspect that Merchants' Credit Guide is attempting to defraud innocent people out of their hard earned money.
