I purchased a "purebred Jack Russell" so I was told. I purchased the dog because she had been there for seven months and was one of the dogs not barking and she was small and perfect for my apartment. So, after all was said and done, the dog was 845.00 dollars total.

After bringing her home I realized she was spooked easy and was in fear of hands coming near her. Her nails were over grown and curling so that told me the dog was not cared for during her stay at the kennel. She had sores between her toes which I had to take care of.

After going on numerous wedsites looking for info on Jack Russell dogs to learn how to care for them, I realized she did not meet the criteria of a purebred Jack Russell nor really looked like the dog in the pictures. I called Meryfield Kennels and told them of my suspicions of her breed, they told me they only sold purebred dogs and that is what she is. I got the breeders phone number and called her asked her the authenticity of the parents of my dog, I got run around stories, and a lot of bull crap from the breeder.

That told me that Merryfield Kennels dosen't deal with reputable breeder's either. I even tried to locate the breeder on the American Pet Registry,Inc. website, which she said the parents of my dog are registered, and could not find her! I learned after the fact that Merryfield Kennels had a bad past and reputation as puppymill dealers. I had my dog fixed and when the Vet read her paper work, he was curious to know why she was listed as a purebred Jack Russell.

He felt she met the requirements of a Toy Fox Terrier. Her teeth are imperfect which may reqire extracting because it is interfearing with her chewing. So needles to say, I am stuck with a dog not knowing her true breed. I feel I was RIPPED-OFF and sold a mixed breed dog at a purebred price. I feel that Merryfield Kennels should be investigated for fraud and abuse on their animals and all the dogs be DNA tested to prove only purebred dogs are being sold at their facility.

Before You Buy request references from the kennel

#2Consumer Suggestion

Sat, July 24, 2004

Before you purchase any purebred canine, you should request references from the kennel, see both parents and verify that they are both AKC dogs (if that is what you are looking for). If the dog you purchased was sold as a purebred and that is what your paperwork states, you need to contact the AKC and report the kennel and the breeder, contact the District Attorney's office in the county where the kennel is located and file a report. You might also contact animal control where the breeder is located and where the kennel is located. Request that they investigate the conditions of the dogs being kept in both places. As far as the dog's nails, you should have checked the dog over before you took it home. That would have told you that the kennel wasn't what you thought it was.
