Complaint Review: Mervys Nationwide Credit

I had an account with Mervyns, but closed it out and paid it off months ago. The last payment we made was in March of 2006. We paid it off when we discovered that their "late charge" exceeded the balance on the account.

Hadn't heard from them, no bills, no statement, etc.. when we got a nastygram from Nationwide Credit. I wrote giving them the payment amounts and account number, but received no reply. When I contacted them they said they don't answer letters. I went to the store and was told that they have no way to check anything and to call. I called and was told to call another number. I called that (800 552 6239) and got a recording to call back some other time because they were too busy with others (gee I wonder why they were too busy, too many complaints, insufficient personnel available to answer phone, incompetence, etc..)

Anyway, I called back and got a rear person. Tried to explain the problem and was transferred to another person. Again, tried to explain problem and found I was talking to a dead phone line. No explaination, but the word incompetence comes to mind. I am getting dinged for accounts I don't have and haven't used in months and I can't get anyone to dicuss the matter with me. I can't get a statement of my account either.

Mervyns is bailing out of Washington and Oregon. Good riddence.
