Metris Direct Merchants I got a call from a lawyer stating that this company said I opened an account with them in 2004 and paid on it till 2009 then stopped. They said the account was at $5000 when I stopped paying and now with interest it is up to $7000+.
I got a call fom a lawyer stating that this company said I got a credit card from them in 2004 and paid on it till 2009 then stopped. They said the account was at $5000 when I stopped payingand now is up to $7000. I have no clue who this company is or what was supposedly purchased and the lawyer will not give me a phone number or address in which to call to ask who they are or what was purchased.
I never opened an account with them. I was divored at the time and paying $800 a month child support so I could not have gotten a credit card wfrom them. I lived in Salina in 2004 and moved to Colorado in 2006 moved back to Kansas in 2008 and never once recieved any letter or phone call about this bill till now in October 2019.

Lawyers do not call people - they send paperwork via a process server. There is not such debt and you are caught in a web of a scammer. Ignore them. If they call back have some fun with them. Demand paperwork (which there is none), ask for his ABA bar number then look it up.
Tell them you will counter sue them for harrassment unless they provide appropriate paperwork. These are scumbag debt collectors seeking $$$ from anyone with your name.

I would not even try call back - tell them they have the wrong number, the debt isn't yours, and now you are harassing me (make sure you use the term harassment often). You may wish to tell the person the call is being recorded as well - even if it isn't.
The Statute of Limitations on this debt ran out a long time ago. Check your credit history just to make sure there is no evidence of this debt on your report. If they ask you to just pay a little, as a good faith gesture, don't do it. Any amount you pay will trigger the debt as valid and tied to you. You will be screwed.
BTW, the lawyer is also a collection agent. The fact he's a lawyer is irrelevant.
