Salesperson Brian Koderl assured me I could get a printer as good as the one he was demonstrating on the showroom floor for half the cost by buying last year's model. He told me the badge numbers had changed due to the fact that each year minor improvements are made where speed is concerned, but that the graphics technology is the same. End result: I received an out of box machine (Ricoh Aficio CL3500N); the graphics on the machine I received were far inferior to that of the demo model (Ricoh Aficio CL4000DN), and the main paper tray did not support the size or weight paper I told him I needed to use, which the demonstration model's tray did support. Brian willfully obscured the facts and connivingly made me wait till the facility was closing to give me the device so I wouldn't have time to test or inspect it properly.

After leaving a message that went unreturned for most of the following day, I finally got Brian's boss, Perry, on the phone. I told him the machine wasn't working like the one Brian had used for demonstration purposes. I told Perry I wanted to return the device and wanted to know what the return policy was so that I could stop-pay my check if I had to. Perry eluded the question, not telling me at that point that Metro Sales, Inc., conveniently DOES NOT ACCEPT RETURNS, (which goes against the Consumer Bill of Rights), and put Brian on the phone, who also hedged every time I asked for details about returning the item, saying he had never been asked that before and didn't know how to go about it, and could I please call tech support to see if I was doing something wrong. I agreed to call tech support, but insisted that Brian call me back before closing to tell me what the return policy was. Tech support was unable to resolve the issue and offered to send a technician. But the printer wasn't broken, it was simply inferior, as I discovered when I read the techical data available online, so I refused the offer.

Brian called me back and I explained that I wanted to return the item because it wasn't living up the his promised level of performance, nor did it accomodate the size and weight paper I had specified in the main tray, which holds more than the bypass tray. To which he smugly responded, "We don't have a return policy, so that's kind of the end-game there."

I cancelled the check and plan to return the item.
