Where to begin?...I first met the Metro VW people several months after buying my 2002 Passat from another VW dealership in November 2004. The factory warranty was about to expire and I decided to purchase an extended warranty. I opted to go to Metro VW for the warranty purchase as they were on the way from my home to my office. After speaking with a salesman I decided on their Platinum Extended Warranty which garnished the VW name at $2500.00. But, infact was a third party company called Fidelity (I found this out later).

The car dies in the middle of the freeway in rush hour traffic at 60 MPH!s After I forced the dead pile of tin to steer to the inside shoulder (pure luck). I reflected while waiting for a tow truck. I was very happy and pleased with myself that I purchased that Metro VW warranty. Wow, the car was several hundred miles past the factory warranty limit now. I get a call two days later explaining that the alternator is bad and has been replaced. Come and get your car. Oh yeah, $100.00 deductible please. Three days later leaving work in an ice storm the car is dead. I get a jump and ALL the warning lights light up and stay on. I limp to Metro VW for repairs. Two days later. We replaced the battery. Come get your car. Oh yeah that will be $100.00 please. Several weeks pass. The car has another seizure in rush hour traffic. Lights off, motor off, steering assit gone! Luckily no fatalities (again). Three weeks later. Come get your car. We think it was the altenator (again) so, we replaced it (again). Don't worry you already gave us $100.00 for this. Several days pass. Seizure! Hello Metro VW. Six more weeks. Come get your car. We replaced this wire connector (Okay......). We think that should do it. You guessed it, $100.00 please. Several days pass. Dead battery. Hello Metro VW. We replaced your battery (again). Sometimes they are bad right from the factoy. Sorry about that. No charge.

Hey Metro VW why is the rocker panel hanging off my car? I can drive it like that! Oops, Come back tomorrow. We will need to get a new one put on. While you are at it, do you think you could replace the shifter handle that you broke, fix the dent you put in the fender, replace the cabin air filter that you lost and install a new antenna that has seems to have sheared off in your care? Also that is an interstate battery. Not a VW unit. Think you might address this stuff too? Three weeks later. Hello stranger. But, why are my radio knobs missing? We didn't do that! But, no problem we will put on new knobs.

Several months go by. Hey Metro VW, my Passat is making a loud screeching noise in the front. Hmm, we need to put in new CV joints in the right side. That shoud do it. By the way your Platinum Warranty won't cover that. $300.00 please.

Several more months go by. Hey, the front end is really squishy and rides very rough. Well we talked the warranty company into new struts. Come get your car and bring us $100.00. We billed the $300.00balance to warranty. During this debocale the car would intermittenly die. This forced Metro VW to keep the car most of the 2007 year. At this time I found the car sitting on Metro VW's back lot covered in dirt inside and out with the windows down. The dash was laying in the front seats. The sun roof was open. The car had been rained in. Birds were roosting and deficating on the seat backs. The head lights bezels had actually sun faded and turned from clear to yellow in the 100 degree plus Texas summer. I brought the cars condition to the service managers attention. His name is Tim. The little midget never acknowledged the Passat's poor condtion, let alone an apology!

I forced them to wrap up the repairs. I was then charged for an oil change that was not done. They found HomeLink(R) in the drivers visor to be the culprit causing all of the woes. But, made me pay for those parts. They put 1235 miles on the car. We found foot prints on tha dash. I found parking vouchers for bars in Fort Worth and sticks and grass stuck in the under carriage. The new tires were not new anymore. The wheels were covered in brake dust and the tail pipes were black with carbon. When I asked them to please just put the struts on that were never done they just laughed at me. BUYER BEWARE of Metro VW @ 2035 W Airport Fwy. Irving, TX 75062. Service: 2400 N. Story Road. Oh, don't bother asking for the owner Brad Haggastad @ direct 972-659-4011. He doesn't care either.

The sign of lack luster sales is a result of the same in service.
P.S. If you want to hear more/share please comment. Especially if you have been treated the same and have also struck out with VW North America. They care even less!

The purpose of this forum is to describe your experiences with dealers and autos, not to flame other reviewers.

I am not a VW employee, nor am I a Metro employee. I am just a VW fan. My GTI VR6 is over 150K miles now, and I just replaced the front brake pads (the rear ones are still original and good). I'm going to keep driving it. It's such a practical car and still very fast and fun too. I've hauled dogs, cement, lumber, bags of mulch, even live goats in the hatch, and the only problems I've had are keeping from getting too many speeding tickets! I've had so much satisfaction with my VW GTI.

I understand you had a tough time with the Passat, sorry about that. Have a great time with your Taurus SHO.

You must have been in the Army. Im am sorry you don't understand the issue at hand and that you think your sickly little beetle is cool. Must be a goverment employee thing. Fact remains that everything I reported was the truth. Don't try and speak about battery issues. Instead read the original issues again Mr. Postman. You guys are all alike trolling about on the web. Don't try and bs me on your Ford and Dodge purchases. Instead scamper on home and turn on CNN an repeat to yourself over and again "there is no car like VW". That will maybe help you maintain the mental fairytale you and Tinkbell are now sharing.

Also glad you fill that you are getting service from Metro. Beware though. Once your car can't be diagnosed/repaired by them, you will be an outcast too. Looking back and reflecting on hearing the service manager Tim talk garbage about me to his subordinates not knowing I was around the corner still says it all. If  you want great VW service do it yourself or see the guys at Lewisville VW. My son has a 2004 Passat W8. LVW does all the maintenance. Awesome guys and gals. Better 10X hands down. And yes I have all my records from the 02 Passat/Metro rip off.

Good luck to you with Metro.

Metro VW Service

I'm sorry to hear about your issues with the Passat.  We have a 2006 VW Jetta TDI.

The service we get is prompt and fair.  We have a wonderful Service Adviser.  When something is not right, he makes it right.

We bought our VW from Metro.  We started with a 2005.5 Jetta TDI, that got totaled in a head on collision.  The replacement was the 2006, again bought from Metro.

We tried to buy one initially from Rusty Wallis.  We will never go there again.  Boardwalk did not have the car we wanted, so we went to Metro.  They did not have the car we wanted either, but brought one up from San Antonio.  I wonder why Boardwalk never offered that?

Please note we live towards Greenville, TX.  Rusty Wallis is much closer to us.

I hope you have all of your documentation in your fight with Metro.  I'm glad you posted your issues, so that we can keep watch for issues as well.

For now, we have no reason to change dealerships, so Metro will be our dealer of choice.

I have used Metro a few times and they have always treated me with respect and took care of my problem very quick.  I drive a 2003 VW Turbo S Beetle most of the time and with a little over 140,000 miles on it I have no complaints.  So far the only problem I have had out of it was the alternator, which was because of the load put on it from my stereo.  Also had to replace the rack and pinion after running over a piece of semi tire on 635.  Both cases metro took care of the problem. They replaced the alternator the same day which really pleased me since I was 150 miles from home.

My second car is a 2008 GTi  and the only problem with it a leak in the sunroof which, again Metro, took care of the same day.  I work for the federal government so I travel through there regularly and usually pass Metro on each trip so that is why I started using them.  The only two VW dealerships I have used is Metro and McCorman in Longview.

As for VW not being a good car!  To be honest they are the best vehicle I have owned.  I also own a Ford Excursion, my daughter has a Chevy Cobalt SS, my son has a Dodge Ram 1500 and my wife drives a Chrysler Concord.  Out of all these vehicles the VW's have given us the least problems and none (I say none) of them will out perform the Beetle Turbo S. I am 100% American, I served 20 years in the US Army and now work for the federal government but I have to say that the German cars are built better, like it or not it's the truth.  Sorry you had so much trouble out of yours but it sounds like a lot of it was because of a lack of basic maintenance. Battery do go bad, alternators also go bad, especially if they are being put under extra load because of bad battery.  as for the warranty.. Aftermarket warranties are tricky and sometimes shady.  You should always read them very carefully

Your Divine Warranty

Wow, You don't read details very well do you?. Metro had the Passat for many months trying to replecate the failure/issues. Actually, for the better part of a year. Lemon? Yes, it was lemon service, on a lemon sun visor with Home Link causing the all of the vehicles computer failures. Diagnosis techs at METRO VW never could get their head around that one. Go figure. Great and pricey VW extended warranty milked by METRO VW to the bitter end though. Yes, Brad collected all the cash and deductibles until the warranty expired and then said "sorry and goodbye". Bet he keeps a Chevy at home. I digress though, Your warranty however must have been supplied by God himself. Yes, they flew your motor to VW Germany for diagnosis. Too funny! Now, my VW car is gone. "crossing myself" Thank that same God that gave you the Divine Warranty. Driving Americana again now. New SHO. It's GOOOOD. Out runs German junka. Better built, better mileage, Better radio, blah, blah, blah HomeLlink works too. Must have been built by God. I love God. Enjoy your 130K GTI METRO you VW employee.

Far from VW puke'in

Metro VW Customer Rebuttal

#9Consumer Comment

Wed, August 11, 2010

Honestly - I believe you bought a lemon, and the story about the dealership driving your Passat 1200 + miles is ridiculous! If the car is as bad as you report, how would that even be physically possible?

I have been a Metro VW customer for many happy years now. In 2003, I selected Metro over all other local dealerships because (a) they gave me the best price on a new GTI, and (b) they did this up front and honestly when asked. I could not get a firm price from other dealers (Rusty Wallis and Hiley), only the usual "Well let's sit down and make a deal" BS.

After I purchased the car, about a month later I noticed an engine rattle at idle that did not sound good. I took the car back to Metro, and they ended up shipping the rattling engine back to Germany for an engineering study but more importantly they installed a brand new engine in my car, all within 1 week! This was the expensive VR6 engine too. I was told that the engine alone costs 12K!

The happy ending? I still have the car and I still drive it daily with 130K on the odometer. I have purchased only a new battery, tires and oil for maintenance.

It is widely known among VW enthusiasts that Metro VW is THE place to do business. I highly recommend them and I will definately look there first for my next car purchase. They are family owned, and they are honest.
