Metropolitan Life Disability ripoff stopped disability payments Lexington Kentucky
I bought MetLife Disability when I was employed by the Corvel Corporation as an RN. I went on disability in June 2002 due to severe diabetic neuropathy of my hands and legs/feet, loss of balance, organic brain syndrome, COPD, severe depression, cardiac problems, memory loss. I was awarded SSD immediately after the waiting period and still get this without a problem.
I started to get the MetLife disability in Jan. 2003 and had to send in myriad forms from my MD and psychiatrist every 3 months. The last form from my MD was sent in July 2004. He says I am permanently and totally disabled from any and all jobs. My psychiatrist also has stated the same thing. MetLife then demanded blood work and EKGs, but I have no medical insurance and could not afford this.
I did enroll in a study for severe neuropathy and they have done some lab tests and given them to me to send to MetLife. I got a letter Friday, 8/20, stating that "my lab tests don't show any disability" so they are cutting me off ($1300/mo.) immediately. Of course the lab tests don't prove disability - even though they do prove I am diabetic, anemic, and have severe hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol).
I thought the letters and info from my doctors would be more than sufficient. I was wrong. They were looking for any little thing to deny me. I can appeal, but they have 45 days to "respond" and can even extend this further if they feel like it. In the meantime, I will be evicted from my apartment and cannot afford to take the many medications I need for my conditions. Is this fair?
