Complaint Review: Mid America Auto Sales-Stilwell Kansas

Mid America Auto Sales in Stilwell, Kansas took in a 1991 Cadillac DeVille on a trade on 10-24-2008. I expressed an interest in the vehicle and was assured the vehicle would have a complete inspection by THEIR mechanic.

On 10-25-2008 I was told the "mechanic" checked the vehicle and he found it to be SOUND with NO mechanical issues. I was told the car was in great condition with only 120,000 miles. I personally asked the mechanic after his "inspection" if the car was good to go with NO problems and I was told yes. We purchased the vehicle with the manager's assurance the car had no problems. In fact, he told us he would "sleep good" knowing he put us in that particular car.

We noticed issues with the car immediately and had it checked by 2 INDEPENDENT CERTIFIED MECHANICS. On 10-27-2008 we provided documentation of the mechanical problems with the vehicle. Every major component on the car had a problem to include a leaking water pump, leaking oil pan, leaking transmission pan and the estimated repairs were easily $1500 to $2000!!! The manager offered us an oil change...???

When asked, the manager "wasn't sure" if his mechanic was certified.

We stopped payment on our check (fortunately) and returned the vehicle to the manager. He didn't want to take the car back, despite his blatant misrepresentation of the vehicle's condition. The mechanic "called in sick" so he didn't have to answer to the clean bill of health he provided on a piece of junk car.

After returning the car, the manager, Jake, was asked if he would put one of his own children in that car and he said NO. We were told the car would have to be sent to auction, however it was listed on Craigslist.com and the dealership website within 24 hours!!!! The car is advertised for the same price it was listed for when we purchased it even though the manager has proof of the mechanical problems!

Be very careful of shady business dealings at this used car lot. Their mechanic IS NOT certified so don't rely on his opinion about ANYTHING! Also, the "warranty" they offer won't do you much good.

Remember...by law, in Kansas, you have 30 days to return a car, despite what Jake might tell you at Mid America Auto Sales. It is sad that he can't be trusted. Don't get stuck with a nightmare vehicle!!!
