Mid City Custom Pools - MCCP, Mid City Pools - Scam and beware; Hurst, Texas
If you live within Dallas-Fort Worth or in NE Tarrant County area, beware of Mid City Custom Pools in Hurst, TX as your pool builder. Dont decide on this book based on its coversLooking back at this pool company, hidden messages exploited by Mid City Pools started from Day 1. This pool builder offers everything and provides a can do attitude to lead you in a contract. But once the contract signed, things went downhill. Deceptions kicked in high gears, negligence, short cuts, many lies, and no customer service; you name it and we experienced it. My husband and I had everything that we wanted in writing on the contract, but that didnt matter. Many promises were made in the agreement, but Mid City Pools knew coming in the agreement that they were not to fulfill our contract unless we repeatedly reminded them the tasks on hands. They neglected the details in the agreement, and built our pool the way their subcontractors typically would. We had in writing that our lawn would be graded the same as before Mid City Pools arrived, but they claimed during the construction that the area of our lawn is not a part of the construction site. Our salesman, Shan, assured us that we will be in good care by the job supervisor (what a lie), and Shan disappeared into the sunset once the contract signed. No courtesy calls from him after the contract signed, and messages were left for Shan but we never receive return calls.
During construction months (as in several months), Eugene was the job supervisor. He was clueless and useless. He didnt know his stuff and products. We were told that his job was to ensure their subcontractors to do their respective jobs per contract agreement. Eugene rarely showed up at the construction site (our house), except the days to pick up our big payments. Most of the construction steps or detailed features had to be redone due to lack of supervision from Eugene. He never informed the subcontractors what detailed in the agreement between us and Mid City Pools (to this day, we didnt really think that Eugene even looked at our contract). When we pointed out these oversights to
Eugene, and asked for rework. His typical response was that he will take of it but never will (endless broken promises by this pool company). Eugene told their subcontractor to shrink our deck area because measuring the decks free-form shape is more complicate than a rectangular one, and they hoped we would never figure out the actual dimensions. When we were not at the construction site, they cut corners and skipped several construction steps just to save them some moneyMastic joint between our house and the deck was skipped. Delivered and installed low-quality equipment (instead of what was contracted), and hoped that we wouldnt notice these short cuts later. But they were mistaken because we checked on every construction progress versus our contract. Also, Eugene never inquired us after any construction phase if we were satisfied with the work.
We reported these incidents to the owner of Mid City Pools, Don Pierce. This guy is a cross between Don Johnson (the actor) and Dark Vader. Don, the owner of Mid City Pools, was quiet, slick, and arrogance. We met him only a few occasions through the whole time we dealt with this pool company. Many phone calls and messages were left for him, and emails sent to him. Only a few was responded, and with derogative remarks and deceptive claims. Don even hung up on one of our phone calls. Don never offered solutions for the on-going construction issues. Don never told us that he appreciates our business, not that we would like or expect to hear that from him. This guy was rude, and has no customer service skills because he knows how to play the gameDon knows when a hole is dug in your backyard, he basically has you cornered.
Hope someone finds this information beneficial and not considering Mid-City Custom Pools as you pool builder, because we hate to see another victim would fall in this trap, and go through all the hassles. Your time and energy wasted just dealing with this pool company. So it doesnt matter what you do or have in your agreement, Mid City Custom Pools will forget you as their customer, and will do whatever they want after a hole is dug in your yard. Dont let the word Custom in their name fools you, this pool company doesnt go outside their norm, but building only run-of-the-mill pools (they may offer you a custom pool). Plus, dont assume the Better Business Bureau will be on your sideThe Bureau considers Mid City Pools as their valuable member, and probably with an auto renewal membership and a big time donor to the Bureau. So just say NO to Mid City Pools to save you a few headaches.

When I read the one report on this site I must admit that I had a very difficult time reconciling these remarks and this experience to the one I had with Mid City Custom Pools. I too started out with a very bad experience with another pool company who became very unresponsive once a contract was signed and a deposit given. After a good bit of time of unresponsiveness from the sales person I contacted the owner who told me that my expectations of service were unrealistic and that they had a contract and a deposit and it would be best if I just made friends with the fact that project was going to unfold in the matter that it was going to unfold regardless of my phone calls.
I decided that I would rather lose the deposit than enable or encourage such behavior be allowing it to go unchecked. I called my bank and the contractor and dissolved the contract, and did indeed have to eat my deposit. I had decided to put the project off for a few months but a friend in the landscaping business, hearing my story, suggested I call Mid City Custom Pools just to see if there might be a way the project could get put back on track.
I met with Don Pierce who listened closely to my very detailed story. He presented a project scenario that not only addressed all of my concerns regarding expectations of how I thought a customer paying this much money for anything should be kept informed, his solution put me back on a schedule that was going to allow me to complete my landscaping project that was on hold until after the pool job.
Timeliness is not everything though. I thought that the design I already had was very good but Don asked if he could suggest some changes. These changes ended up turning the project from OK to stunning. Don did have to get involved once or twice through the project but was always available and responsive. The vendors or sub-contractors that worked on my project were all very skilled and respectful of my property, pets, and belongings.
After the pool was complete, a gentleman named mark gave me a pool school class and has been available for any questions about things I forgot during the school and has come by to check on me after his official duties were complete. I am very impressed with this service in particular. The pool I have just had completed in the house that I just had built (finished last week in April) has been the best experience I have had in the entire process regarding the total construction of this residence. I hold Don, Mid City Custom Pools, and his staff at the office in very high regard and consider myself a somewhat difficult man to please. This is why when I read these previous comments it is very difficult for me to reconcile or imagine that we had such diametrically different experiences with the same company
