I brought my car in to a Midas station for a rough idle and low power problem. I told them I thought it might be the catalytic converter being clogged but I dont know. I'm not a mechanic. The manager instantly told me a price without even checking it.

Later I asked dont you need to check it? He asked for the keys then. I asked if he checked it and he said yes its bad. I also asked the mechanic and he told me that the catalytic converter was causing the rough idle and low power problem. Well it wasnt the problem and it cost me $293 to put a new catalytic converter on my car when the old one was fine. There was no difference in the problem when I left Midas as when I came in. The problem turned out to be totally un-related. It was 2 bad coil wires. The strange thing is they do tuneups there and should have been able to diagnose the car correctly. I had no choice but to pay them since I needed my car back even though the problem was never fixed. I'm not a wealthy man and its killing me to throw away $293 on a new catlytic converter that was never the problem to begin with.

I sent an email to Midas. They informed me that they are all individually owned so they couldnt do anything but that the local owner Lowell Goodmen would contact me. They never contacted me. I did notice a large amount of complaints about Midas. I also noticed a similar complaint against another Lowel Goodmen shop on this board. This other complaint was for his shop located at :1309 S.W. Military Drive, San Antonio Texas 78221.

After I contacted them their district manager not only pushed his shops lies but was agreesive, rude and nasty. Then even worse Mr Long offered a settlement of 50% back. Once I accepted his settlement offer he tells me 10 minutes later that he never had the authority to make this offer. I can not say how ripped off I felt. Since then I filed a complaint with the better business bureau and big surprise Mr Goodmens account was alreadyin bad standing.

My next course of action will be to file a suit in smal claims court and I may even go as far as picketing his dishonest shop with 1-2 of my friends. Let his future clients see how unsatisfied his previous client is. This is really personal for me now. I may lose out of the $293 I feel they stole from me but I plan on telling at least 20000 people in my area about what I think of this Midas shop and how they do business. Since morals and honesty seem to mean nothing to this shop I feel the only way I can get their attention will be monatarily.

My next step will be setting up a website detailing every aspect of what I have gone thru with this shop and including all the information I have compiled on them from of pissed off clients.
