My wife took her 2004 Kia Sorento to Midas in Stockton to have them diagnos the vehicles air conditioning system. The tech there gave my wife a written estimate stating that the compressor needed to be replaced. The itemised cost in total from them was 1,800.00 dallors and some change. I made my wife an appointment with Kia of Manteca for a second opinion. Kia of Manteca confirmed that the compressor indeed needed to be replaced but at a total  cost of 700.00. As you can see, there was NO reason for Midas to charge more then twice the amount compared to the dealer exept to RIP US OFF. Two something for a compressor and three hundred labor the rest in taxes totaling 700.00 is the real cost. So, anyhow my wife did get charged 40.00 dollars by Midas for the shady diagnosis. No bueno Midas.

I don't like Midas and certainly agree that they charge too much, but this is not a case of fraud just because you received a lower quote at a different location. The diagnosis was accurate; therefore, it was not shady.

Merchants have the right to charge whatever they choose for their goods and services. The Midas estimate may be for new or better quality parts. The $700 estimate is low. You may have been given an estimate that includes rebuilt parts. You probably will not get out the door for only $700. You did not state the warranty terms for either estimate.
