I was contacted by Midland Credit in reguards to a credit card that was opened in 2002. The card was issued by General Motors credit. MCM (Midland) accused me of openeing the account and "taking care of" the account for two years. This account was not opened bu my wife or myslf. Unfortunatly I am in the process of trying to buy a home and these thieves have cost me a good chance at a very nice home.

After reviewing my credit report with my finacial advisor, not only does it show negative remarks, but it appaers on my report twice. This lowers my current credit score drasticly. I am in contact with my local district attorney and with MCM.

I have recieved only one letter and one phone call addressing this issue. I was totaly shocked and am looking to resolve this situation by any means possible.

First thing I would do is verify the ssn number and other personal information they have. Also check the previous addresses and other contact info, it may help determine who opened the account. After that, you would want to set up an account ownership dispute w/ the company, request copies of the last couple payments. If they payments were done by phone or anything like that, see if they can find one that was done via check so that you can find a name for the person opening the account, or if there is a checking account in your name aswell. Contact the credit reporting agencies Experian, Equafax, and Transunion and dispute the account reporting on there. Tell them there is an account ownership dispute open with the company in question. After that you kinda need to play it by ear. But that would be the first steps to get it resolved from my experience.
