I received a phone call from an "Officer Woodson" supposedly of the Illinois State Police asking that I call the federal marshall's office. The number given was a New York area code. The person who answered the phone would not give his name or badge number but said that if I did not pay $2,975.13 within 15 minutes I would be arrested. When my attorney called the number, they would not answer. Now I received an email from Mike J. Anderson, supposedly a State's Attorney in Bloomington, IL with a document that said it was an arrest warrant for money laundering.

Original Report: I received a phone call from an "Officer Woodson" supposedly of the Illinois State Police asking that I call the federal marshall's office. The number given was a New York area code. The person who answered the phone would not give his name or badge number but said that if I did not pay $2,975.13 within 15 minutes I would be arrested. Today I received another email from Mike J Anderson. The somewhat official looking attachment listed him as a states attorney for Manhattan, NY. An email from him last month listed him as a states attorney for Bloomington, IL. Who is this guy really and what is his real occupation?

Ken

Colorado,

It appears to be one of many scams trying to scare people into paying them.

Usually they will also say that other agencies are investigating you and they apparently want you to believe they are wanting to help you.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  These scammers are often based in India.  Sorry you're having to deal with these low lifes.
