Mike Stokes hired our company to replace the siding on their Allstate Agency building. We started work and submitted the invoice for the first payment and he told us he was out of state because he worked on a team that apprehended bad guys. After a couple of weeks as we were finishing up the project he issued a check for the first payment. At the same time we issued a final invoice and he said it would be paid early the following week. Upon trying to deposit the first check, the name on the check was "Good Karma Investments LLC", it was rejected because one of the acoount number digits was not on the check. I contacted him and he said it was a mistake and they were ordering more checks. 2 weeks later still no check and his story was he had to go out of town to testify before a grand jury. In the above time period there were also tales of the bank was sending the check, the check got returned to the bank, the bank resent the check, the check got returned again (This was the same bank that I bank at and somehow they are able to get all my mail to me, except the mail from him), the accountant is sending the check, the check got returned to the accountant. I requested that he meet me at the bank and pay me there or write me a temporary check, but his story was that the bank cannot do that (Again this is the bank I do business at and they confirmed that he could have done either of those within the accounts they offer). Meanwhile more promises of payment and the latest story is he is waiting on his attorney to draw up lien release papers before he can pay me. Of course there is no concrete date these will be ready, just sometime in the future. He has proven to be a liar and a thief. As it turns out he has  not paid any other contractor that has performed work on the building, he has bounced checks to a lumber company in town, and has a reputation of not paying his bills. I would be happy to talk to some of the other contractors who have not been paid and work with them to see if there is something that can be done legally to collect our money. By the way, this guy owes me about $22,000.
