Years ago, my thief in-law, Mitchell Shaffer, Phd, came to me with tears in his eyes, while we were having coffee at Bally's Casino in Las Vegas. He asked if I would loan him the money to pay off his student loans and his charge cards. He stated, "with me only paying the minimum payment, I will never be able to pay them off." Well, with his wife my sister, and 2 baby girls upstairs in the hotel asleep, how could I say no. At that time I didn't know he was a habitual gambler, a liar, cheat and thief-in-law. I agreed to loan the money, no interest, $150. per month for many, many years. They would have been paid off this year. I wrote I'm to checks that night. He made 2 $150. payments plus deducted the next months airfare Vegas trip as a payment, so in essence he made a total of three payments, out of an over $18,000 loan. Here is what devastes me. After calling and calling the Dr. and no return calls, I went to his Rabbi in Irvine. In 2009 I wrote a letter detailing every penny, I had loaned my sister and thief in law. I mentioned, I was loosing my house and needed my money back. The Rabbi met with me and told me, he would meet with them. He did and got back to me.
