MJ Promotions Marketing SCAM! Sherman Oaks California
I found this posting on Craigslist for promotion reps for a marketing company that specializes in the spa industry. During my job search on Craigslist I have come to find many shady businesses so I am fully aware of their tactics and scams. I spoke to Sabrina at MJ Promotions and she vaguely told me about the position. I specifically asked if this particular job was a "working on the field going door to door" job. She immediately said "No this is a Mon-Fri 8to 5 job and would eventually be a management position." So I figured I would go in for an interview. The ad stated that the salary was between $600-800 a week. When I got there, this place was a hole in the wall office location. The actual office looked so shady as there was a chair and table. There were no signs of the company, no certificates posted, no nothing!! The "owner" named Ilya, interviewed me...his office was even more shady!! He didnt even have a business card! I told him my qualifications, what I was looking for, how I wanted to get into management ect. He told me that "This is not an office type job or one that could get you into management, this job you would be working out on the field..." I said " That is not what Sabrina your receptionist told me.." of course Sabrina was no where around. When I asked him what the position entailed as far as working on the field, he couldnt even give me an answer! I said " This place is definitely not legit" and he looked so guilty. I walked out of there along with a few other people being interviewed!!
beware these people are scam artist! They want you to work your butt off for them for nothing! They arent even a legit business and bastards like this make it so hard for all of us americans dealing with this recession trying to find employment after being laid off.

I worked for MJ Marketing for over a year, between 2008-2009.
There is nothing about it it that constitutes a scam.
Independent "promotional reps" go out, promote various salons and spas, by selling deeply discounted spa gift packages, and make really good money doing it.
You get paid 100% commission. (So if you don't work, you don't get paid.)
My highest week there was $1,600.00--that's a 5 day period, and last I checked that is very good money.
When I left the average person was making about $600.00 a week, but the top producers $900 plus.
It's by no means an "easy" job, and most people wouldn't be able to do it, since it requires walking around, approaching and talking to complete strangers all day long, and dealing with loads of rejection from people who are not interested in the deal...but it's legit.
The services people get with these packages, for the price they pay, is really great.
Most customers are very satisfied, and will buy multiple certificates to multiple spas.
As far as the MJ office, it is nice, tastefully decorated, and pleasant--definitely not as described by "Mimzy".
The address is listed, so anyone can come by and peek in, to see for themselves.
Also, I know Ilya would not have said what he was quoted as saying--they are actively trying to promote sales reps to management, and I saw someone promoted while I was there. They are looking to promote several branch managers to open their own offices in different cities across the U.S. and they tell everyone this.

I just filed a report as a consumer for this company. I have a complaint and need a refund on 2 spa certificates I bought from them, and they are COMPLETELY unresponsive - email, phone, etc. Now reading your report, I have the same questions about the legitimacy of this company, and I am very concerned about my refund request.

Mimzys complaint

To all of you reading this rip-off report , I am writing this rebuttal to finally set the record straight. First, some history on me: I have been a loyal employee of MJ Marketing since the company began over 5 years ago, and I am the manager here. I would like to address Mimzy's various complaints about our company.
1. My receptionist Sabrina has been a good employee for 2 years now. She would never be dishonest with a potential employee about what we do. Her job is to invite people in for interviews and give them a description of the job.
2. Mimzy makes a claim in her report that our office is a "hole in the wall." This paragraph alone proves that the person who wrote this letter has no integrity. These statements are flat out lies. Our office is 1700 sq ft with a comfortable waiting room and an extremely large reception area . I invite anyone to come in and I will personally give them a tour of our office, which is located in a prime location overlooking Ventura Blvd.
3. Mimzy was indeed interviewed by Ilya, the owner of the company. I am confident in my company and I don't feel a need to defend myself to someone making false assumptions.
Mimzy goes on to refer to us as b******s and idiots, and that we make people work their butt off for nothing. I invite anyone to come in to our office and talk to one of our 13 sales reps, many of which have been with us for years and continue to make life changing money.
It seems like Mimzy may have misjudged us based on her misconceptions about what we do. As I said in the beginning of this rebuttal, I've worked here for years and am fully confident that I run a positive office with a terrific atmosphere. I also provide a terrific service to the businesses that I promote.
At the end of the day I wish Mimzy luck in her job search if she's still searching. It is a very difficult economy and I am aware that there are scams and dishonest people. I am not one of them, and neither is MJ Marketing.
