Complaint Review: Modern Promos

Modern Promos Jonathon Nelson I replied to a ad for a marketing promo. The owner, Jonathon Nelson, contacted me and set up the work. I kept calling, texting and e-mailing him so I could fill out paperwork so I would be paid! I started the marketing event on Friday, October 23rd and finished the marketing event on Friday, October 30th 2015. After calling and emailing repeatedly, Mr. Nelson finally sent me my "new hire paperwork" 9 days after the marketing was completed!!! Now he will not return my phone calls and states that I knew that I would not be paid for up to 60 days! WRONG!! I took the job in good faith and was told I would be paid in a few weeks!! NO ONE WORKS BEFORE HALLOWEEN AND THINKS THAT THEY WILL NOT BE PAID BEFORE CHRISTMAS! I have the e-mails and text messages from Jonathon Nelson and I WILL BE TAKING IT TO COURT!! I have worked for a lot of marketing companies and I have NEVER seen one that expects you to wait 60 days at their convienence to pay you!! Maybe when he is broke and working for nothing, after everyone has sued him, he will remember that he wouldn't have had any money before if we weren't all out there doing his work for him!!! Modern Promos, aka Jonathon Nelson are liars.  They want you to do all of the work, and tell you its ok, they will send you the new hire paperwork.  They will tell you that you will be paid within a few weeks after the marketing event has ended.  Then... they wait almost 10 days after the event is over to send you the new hire paperwork which says that it could take up to 60 days to get paid!!  NO ONE WORKS FOR A FREAKING WEEK BEFORE HALLOWEEN AND THINKS THEY WILL NOT GET PAID UNTIL AFTER CHRISTMAS!   No one will return my calls or answer my calls for that matter!!  Mr. Nelson sent me a e-mail last week that my check was mailed out on Monday, December 14th.  It is now Monday December 21 and my mail man already dropped off the mail.. and still no check!!  This company is not on the up and up and I am going to contact quite a few friends, including a producer at a local news station in Little Rock, my friend who is a private attorney, the BBB, well the list goes on and on!!   I am a divorced mother and I was expecting the money I WORKED for to be there with Christmas!!

I have never worked for one of these type places but I am just curious.  Why does the worker have to wait for the client to pay?  A. Even if the client never pays, that would not absolve this MP of having to pay it's brand ambassadors, so why the wait?  B. Is the company so poorly they can't afford to pay the BAs until they receive payment from their client?  We don't have this company, to my knowledge, in the U.K. but I was just curious about the above.

60 Days is Standard

Sound like Melody is new to the business.  60 days is standard waiting time for the Promotions/Events industry.  Besides you finished a day before Halloween, so your month really starts Nov. 1st.  Therefore it's only been just over 6 weeks.  I know numerous people still waiting on checks from that time period.  Furthermore, have you not had a job since then?  Most people in the promotions world are constantly working, so waiting on a check is normal.  Again, 60 days in standard.  Pretty much every contract is 60 days.  Even then, contracts clearly state that you don't get paid until the agency gets paid. Therefore if the agency is delayed in getting paid, you will be as well.  Melody needs to chat with some expienced BA's, get the details on how this industry works.
