During the time I followed Modified K9 on Facebook and at local fundraisers I observed several things that did not seem to add up.  To start, this organization is a "home based" rescue, which means it relies on foster homes to take in and care for the rescues.  The organization relies on chip-ins through social media and fundraisers to pay for food, VET, and any other expenses.

To their average follower Mk9 seem harmless but for someone who has watched them closely you will observe that there are a great deal of fundraisers and chip-ins for the same dogs.  The dog rarely goes to or has done what the fundraiser was intended for but the funds raised are never said where they are spent.  Yet, a few weeks later they'll raise more funds for that same dog but for a different large expense.

Their rescued dogs always seem to have some "off the wall" story, or a major disability.  One was a victim of a local dog fighting ring (but somehow no one was arrested?), another was beat with a pole and had permanent damage, they had a blind dog, one with his ears cut almost completely off, two with mental problems, and one with two broken back legs.

The rescue "founders" (Michelle and Derek) have an excessive number of pets in their home and very few actual "rescue dogs" but some how manage to work quite a bit less than the average "working" American and still feed their dogs, cats, child, themselves, along with paying their bills, dining out, and gassing up their SUV.

In 2011, they claimed they were broke, had to "shut their doors" due to their (personal) financial problems but some how got back on their feet all with out working.  Oh, that was just before they acquired a "Bind" Pit Bull.  The donations must have come rolling in after that "story" reached their Facebook followers.  It must have been easier to get on their feet with such a sob story about helping a blind dog.

The bottom line is, this organization does do "some" good.  But at what cost?  Why should they benefit from money intended for rescue dogs?  Why should they be allowed to "shop" at the SPCA for dog in which a fake or embelished story could be concocted that could potentially raise a great deal of funds?

To these individuals it has become less about helping dogs and more about the need to support their habits and get recognition needed to feed their ego.  They could care less about whats best for the animal as long as its "whats best" for their bottom line.  For those of you who disagree you better wake up!  It's right in front of you!  Michelle and Derek are scam artists that became so good at it that they have themselves convinced that what they do is "okay"!

Can Michelle (owner of modified K9) make financial records public? Maybe you should put them up on your website or post them to this website. And why aren't you a 501c3 or even registered with the governments department of charities? A real non-profit (with nothing to hide) would have gone through the process to obtain non profit status from a government agency. It would be nice if the government would investigate and audit your shady company.

My name is Michelle and I am the owner of Modified k9 Inc. Our organization is dedicated to helping owners better understand their pit bull dogs through education and training guidance. In addition, we put our hearts
into rescuing, rehabilitating and finding responsible, loving homes for these very misunderstood dogs. Modified k9 is a foster home based and we cover parts of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania with educational programs for the youth and pit bull owners, alike.

Since the website, Rip off Report does not verify that posted reports are authentic or accurate, I invite you to visit our site, modifiedk9.org and to contact us with any questions you may have about fundraising or other issues. If you take the time to look into all we do, you will see that the posting by Ann from Dallas, Pa is not true.

We welcome the opportunity to meet with Ann to address her concerns.
