Monitronics automatically renewed our contract without notifying us. They did the after months of us having to pay the monthly fee even after our security system had been destroyed by lightning (we paid thru the contract period) and us notifying them in writing twice to cancel the contract. They say we didn't cancel in time and they therefore renewed us automatically and continue to bill us nearly a year since our system stopped working. they call us several times a week trying to collect. Help!

Consumers: Monitornics makes everyone feel like dummies because we either lost or did not read the fine print about automatic contract renewal of contract after obligational period has been met. Well, we are dummies because we trusted Monitronics: we trusted that their "customer service" would serve us, the customer. It does not. We trusted that they would disclose the "hook" in their contract that would make it very difficult to get out merely because we were not informed. We trusted that they (Monitronics)when asked politley how/where/when to send written notice to quit their service, they would tell us the facts (they have it on their computers, right? That's what the employees have said in rebuttals. . . .well, they don't tell us our anniversary date because they have their hooks in us for another year of service, and they will lose money if they disclose that information. Please everyone, do not use this company, and let it be known that their membership with Dallas Better Business Bureau was terminated on Nov 2003 because they will not let honest consumers quit even when they follow the rules. Even when they deliberately "trick" us, and then they call us, their customers Dumb. Well, we didn't read every word of the contract and we didn't keep it posted on our refrigerators for 3 years because we thought we could trust them, we thought they were forthright and honest, we didn't know companies like this exist! Now we do.
