Monitronics International holds alarm systems hostage everywhere Dallas Texas
I have been a Monitronics customer for 7+ years. My contract with them was up long ago. They state that I own my alarm system. I would like to switch to another monitoring company. Monitronics will not set my alarm system codes to default nor will they give me the codes, so the number that the system calls in an alarm can't be changed.
Basically, my alarm system will only call them unles reprogrammed. It can't be reprogrammed without the programmer codes which Monitronics will not change for me or release to me. So, I only own the system if I'm doing business with Monitronics.

Monitronics locked panel
#2Consumer Suggestion
Fri, October 13, 2006
Your new alarm provider should be able to default the panel at no charge.
It's a very simple process.
Monitronics also claims to unlock panels for customers at either no charge or a $25 charge.
