We purchased a new home located in a rural area in March of 2000. We decided that it would not be a bad idea to get a security system. We had had one a our last home that came with the house, but we never had it monitored. We decided that we would agree to a 3-year monitoring service in order to receive a free security system and installation.

We decided to use a company named Security Guard Alarms, which is no longer in business. I have all of the original paperwork that was provided by Security Guard Alarms regarding the security system, however, I do not have any formal contract (i.e. carbon copy of signed agreement with any fine print).

On June 9, 2000, we received notice from Monitronics that they had been assigned by Security Gaurd Alarms to monitor our system. With the 3-year obligation now fullfilled, I called Monitronics to cancel the monitoring service. I was told that I cannot cancel the service without written notice received by them 30-days prior to the contract expiration. I was told that my contract was automatically renewed for an additional year.
