I am a senior citizen on a fixed income. I accepted a three year contract with Monitronics in 2004. In the spring of 2007 and again in 2008 they tried to increase my monthly fee. I phoned and was kept at the original contract fee.

However, the 2008 service rep told me I had to go to an additional contract to keep my rate. Living alone I said, "Yes".

Now I have unsuccessfully tried to sell this large house and I have finally had to move into ONE room and rent out all the rest of the property. The tenants have cell phones and do not wish a land line nor do they want the security system.

I called Monitronics and was told (1) I had to keep the system despite my situation, (2) I could arrange for someone else to buy it from me and relocate it to another address, (3) If the house had sold I would have to sell the contract to the new people or move it (I have no place but a room to live in).

I believe this is harassment of the elderly and I find it most disastrous as my fixed income won't let me do much...

Finally. the supervisor on the phone today (Tiffany) arranged to put my account on hold for two months (against company procedure that this is only for sold properties and the new address isn't yet known) and to add it to my final end date. I asked her to forward the signed agreements. Of course, she has only the one for three years done in 2004.

HELP! How do I end this intolerable situation?
