Two years ago I purchased a 98 explorer. Recently I was leaving from work, turned the engine and the crank just snapped.

Because the warranty was up when this happened I was told that I would have to pay to fix this myself. The service person at ford checked the engine and said I needed a brand new motor.

The price he gave me ( $5800.00 )was completely out if the question. He then proceeded to give me other options, notably replace the crank $1800.00, rebuild the motor $3400.00, get a junk yard motor $3400.00.

I chose the rebuild. He proceeded to tell me what would be replaced, wires, plugs, rings and a number of other items.

The truck was fixed and the total bill came out to be $2700.00.

In less than a week I had to bring my truck back twice for mechanical malfunction. The second time was because of a bad thermostat and sensor which from my understandig should have been replaced in a standard rebuild. To replace they are charging over $200.00 for something that should have been included.

When I had called to address my concern the person who I was originally dealing with was out for a few days so I spoke to some one who was handling his calls while he was out.

This person proceeded to tell me they did not rebuild the engine, they replaced the crank only. This should have cost me $1800.00. He also said since they did not rebuild the motor he could not fix the heat problem for free.
