I was hired by Jon as a subcontractor to do warranty inspections on mattresses . I did 17 inspections at $25 apiece sent an invoice for $425. I did receive my check a few weeks later and deposited it. I could no longer do inspections for John anymore so I emailed him to let him know. He became very aggressive threatening that if I did not do at least two more inspections for him he would cancel payment on my check. I told him I could no longer do any inspections because I have a full-time job and watch my children while my wife is at work.
He then Cues me of lying and started bullying me and threatening me telling me I have no choice but to do these last two inspections he also accused me of lying. Again I told him I could no longer do these inspections and he should not touch my money because it’s mine and it was earned . He then cancel payment on my check and now I can no longer get in contact with him . In my opinion he is not the kind of person you want to do business with and cannot be trusted to pay you for services rendered .

You may take him to a small claim court. But you need to be sure that you have all evidence (in writing, text, or anything tangible or can be printed out) that he hired you to do the jobs (for your $425 check) and you completed them as expected. If you have been charged for bounce check too, then add the number to your total damage claim as well. Don't forget to bring the evidence (from the bank) that you have been charged for it as well. Sadly, you can't claim for punitive damage (from being sconed or harrased).
