Morey Plumbing Heating & Cooling Inc./ Home Depot/ Trane Inc. contracting without a license, bait and switch, misrepresentation San Diego California
I was in the Home Depot at Balboa and Genesee where I was approached near the Trane A/C display when I was approached by a young blond haired woman. She identifyed herself as a Home Depot and Trane representative.
I signed up for a A/C and heating estimate for a forclosed home that I'm investing in.
Morey showed up. They quoted a Goodman system claiming it was much better than a Trane. They also said that they would handle me direct instead of through Home Depot saving me lots of money. These were my first red flags.
In checking on the internet and with consumer experts I found Morey's infomation not accurate.
I then checked them through the BBB and the State License board and found that they were a sole proprietor. However through Home Depot, Trane and their own literature they are listed as a corporation. The Calif. Secratary Of State confirms this.
In checking with the State License Board they said as far as they are concerned this makes Morey a unlicensed contractor. They also said this may mean that their worker's comp. & liability insurance are not in force.
I find it to be very negligent that Home Depot would send them to me when they claim that their contractors are carefully checked out, and Trane endorses them as a top Trane dealer on their website (trane.com) when Morey Inc. is not even a licensed contractor in the State Of California!
This puts California consumers at risk, and just is not right! I have instead contracted with another contractor, representing another top brand, that is actually licensed, and checks out as very reputable.

Home Depot uses several differn't contractor's depending on which state you live in... they have several hundred stores throughout the U.S. keeping track of status of every contractor's license at every store would be next to impossible, and since Home Depot is cutting jobs thier is even less people avail
did you contact Home Depot Corporate office and report this situation? I'm sure if you called Home Depot Services ... explain that the person is unlicensed and they tried to sell you another brand so they wouldn't be paid... they would immediately remove that contractor..
to be fair.. I have had Home Depot services done on my home through several contractors Trane (Bel-Red Heating Seattle, wa) Garage doors (Martin doors) Countertop replacement (Precision countertops) and the advantage of going through them.. I (the Customer pays Home Depot) the Contractor Does *NOT* Get PAID. for his work. until after it is completed and the customer signs off.. then Home Depot releases the funds to the contractor.

Also Morey's Surety Bond May prove useless in this circumstance.
