Morton's Seafood Restaurant Ripoff Lethargic Service Owner Doesn't Give a Crap Worst Service in Town Madisonville Louisiana

Every time I go to Morton's expecting the service and overall experience to have gotten better, it gets progressively worse. So bad in fact that the last two times I went I refused to leave a tip for both the bartender and the waitress. Dawn Davis is the owner and she employs a staff of sloths that move at a snail's pace. Her bartender, some blonde who has been there for years, must think she can get by on her looks because she screws up even the easiest three ingredient drink, but leaving one of the ingredients out! Two months ago it took said blondie 20 MINUTES to close out my tab! Their food is mediocre at best, not even on par with other local restaurants.

So why am I pissed? If the above isn't enough of an explanation, there's more.

I call to make a reservation for this past Mother's Day, May 14th, 2006. I was told I they wouldn't take reservations for parties less than 10. No problem, rather than LIE and say I had 10 guests, I told the hostess I'll come when they open at 11:30 and put my name on the wait list.

Mother's Day came and my sister arrived at 11:30am to get on the wait list. She was told by the hostess they were only taking reserved tables and no "wait" tables would be seated till after 2pm. My sister was outraged. So was I. I called Dawn the owner and started b**ching. She could care less, other than to say her staff must have been mistaking. She said there would only be a 30 minute wait if I came back "right now". I did. I was only one mile away. When I ran up to the hostess she told me it would be a TWO HOUR WAIT. What the h**l??

Seems not only is Dawn's staff slow and lethargic, but they don't know what the h**l is going on. Neither does Dawn, and what irks me the most is that Dawn doesn't even TRY to make things better.

I'm enraged and I am on a campaing to let everyone know just how much Morton's Seafood Sucks.

I'm not going to drag out this thread any further because RipOffReport doesn't want meaningless threads. I will address your points constructively, but if you choose to be contrary, assuming and borderline flaming, your "confusion" will continue because I will choose not to respond. So here's your clarification.

Good, legit question. Fortunately for Morton's a little summer breeze named Katrina blew through here last Aug 29th. This area is full of evacuees who will eat absolutely anything and tolerate crappy service, because they're glad to be getting any service at all. Prior to Katrina their business was ok, but not as bustling as it once was. My intention is to get the word out to as many of these "new" local residents as possible that better, more cooperative dining alternatives do exist. And just because they're evacuees, they don't have to settle for crappy service.

That was a totally ignorant response on your part. You assume I've aspired to nothing more than a dishwasher, yet you don't know even one fact about my past. Fact is I've been everything from a McDonald's cashier, bartender, soux chef, prep cook, cook and even a maitre d'. But you know all about my job history, right?

Not at all. If I had something personal against the "blonde" wouldn't you think I'd refer to her by name? Prior to this the owner, Dawn Davis never knew my name. Proabably still doesn't unless she reads this complaint. If there is anything personal, it's personal against me. They ruined a mother's day dinner for MY mom, sister, neice, WIFE and my brother's girlfriend who is also a mom. So yeah, I'm a little raw around the edges on this topic.

Me, because I do have hundreds of dollars to throw at a cause I feel justified in pursuing. See, I didn't ever want to be a dishwasher, that's why I can throw benjies at hurting their business, instead of throwing them on Morton's table after a lousy dinner.

You said there was a 2 hour wait, for a table, on Mother's day. You also stated the blonde has worked there for many years. You say there are other restaurants with better food and at cheaper prices. IF things are as bad as you say, WHY do people continue to go there? You state you've been in the service industry for many years from macdonalds to a 4 star restaurant. I don't think washing dishes makes one an expert.

To clear up a few things...

I tried to go back and edit my original complaint, but found it cumbersome to do so. Let me clear a few things up here.

When originally calling to get a reservation for May 14th, I was specifically told that a wait list and hostess would be available to seat waiting customers and that they opened the doors at 11:30am. Yet on that day when we arrived at 11:30 the hostess told us no waiting tables would be seated until after 2pm. They neglected to tell me that one little, but monumental detail on the phone.

Why did I continue to go back, knowing they sucked so much? In reverse order - on Mother's Day my mom insisted on going to that particular restaurant, even though I disputed. I finally gave in. Afterall, it was Mother's Day.

The time before that my brother, who has lived out of town for years was in town and remembered having a good time there a decade ago, so he wanted the family to get together there, again, dispite my negative comments. Pathetically slow service. So slow in fact, I wrote my comment on the VISA receipt. I left no tip.

The two times before that it was just my wife and I. We hold restaurants to a three-strike rule. But after just two strikes we made up our mind that Morton's is a pathetic dump of a restaurant.

By the way, when I bitched out the owner on Mother's Day I told her "Never again will I ever step foot in your hell-hole." Dawn didn't even attempt to apologize. A true display of her inability to be accountable for the mistakes of her staff. My entire family is own notice, not that I have to drive the point home to them now, they saw for themselves how unorganized and careless Morton's is. Having screwed a party of seven with three mothers on their special day, Morton's will lose many more customers when my campaign gets rolling.

I've lived here for 37 years and have worked locally in the service industry spanning McDonald's to a four star French restaurant. I know crappy service and lame excuses when I see it. I know how restaurant owners who give a d**n run their operations. I'm well qualified to be making these complaints. There are many other fine restaurants here serving the same style of food with stellar service and at lower prices. Anyone with a vat of grease can fry a fish. Morton's has no special culinary talents or claim to fame regarding french fries and catfish, believe me.

My new website and local bumper sticker campaign is in the works. I will not let this die. They screwed over the wrong person. And I will not relent

If this terrible service has been going on for so long, why do you keep going back? Aren't there any other restaurants in your area? I'm not trying to be a smartazz, I seriously would like to know why you continue to dine at a restaurant you don't enjoy.
